New backpack

Looking for a new tackle backpack. Anyone ever try the Flambeau Portage backpack or have any other suggestions. Thanks

I recently purchased the Plano A-Series 2.0 backpack at Dick's and it is fantastic:

It's well balanced and comfortable to wear. I have had no problems with it shifting or slipping even when I just sling one strap over my shoulder. The clasp across the chest also offers greater stability.

 

It hold five 3600 boxes (included with the bag) which is enough for my needs and it has a large zipped storage area inside for soft plastics, water bottle, gloves, snacks, and gaiters. The side pockets are large enough for my scale and fishing tools. It also appears to be fairly heavy duty in its composition and the large, rugged zipper. It does have snaps on the outer pockets so just make sure you snap them tight.

 

While it's retail price was $79.99 I was lucky in that over Christmas it was on sale for $39.99 and Dick's sent me $10 in customer cash so it was a steal of a deal.

 

Another one I almost purchased was the Bass Pro Shops backpack. It sells for only $29 and it holds a TON of planos and gear (it hold 10 360 boxes) . A friend has one and he loves it. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-extreme-qualifier-360-backpack-or-system

 

The day I bought my bag I really wanted on THAT DAY and if it wasn't a 2 hour round trip drive to BPS I may have bought that one instead. However, I'm really happy with my purchase. It's much, much better than the Spiderwire shoulder bag that I was carrying.

I suggest a basic backpack or sling bag with enough room to hold a couple utility boxes and some plastics/accessories you pick out for the day. Packs designed for fishing hold a lot of stuff but once you load them up they become heavy and cumbersome, which in my opinion is counterproductive to the reason you probably want a fishing pack in the first place (mobility and convenience) I used to have a "fishing pack" and found I was just carrying around a bunch of stuff I didn't need. 

 

Also, by skipping the fancy fishing pack you'll save a few bucks

I use a surplus MOLLE II Assault Pack. This is everything that fits in it with room to shove more if I wanted + MOLLE real-estate for pouches and crap.

 

You'd probably have to do some digging on eBay or have a good local surplus store to get a decent deal on one anymore though.

I looked at this pack recently and found a few images and reviews with all the same issues.  I decided to go a different direction.

I agree with EvilCatfish- depends on your goal.  I have the Shimano Blackmoon backpack but that thing is for EVERYTHING!  If I am going out and I know what I am doing I just bring my "sling"- It was a biker backpack (over 1 shoulder) that I can wear front or back and fish with it on or off all day long.  Just find one that fits your needs.

I just bought a tackle warehouse backpack. Looks pretty nice and rugged. I was using a cabela's ones before, but the zipper gave out.

I have been looking into the same type of bag. I think I'm going to go with the advanced anglers sling bag from bps. But if you have more than one box of tackle I would definitely go with the Tackle Wearhouse bag. I got one last year and it made my fishing trips so much better. They are very well made and have a ton of pockets. My favorite part is the rod holders that are on the sides. I usually bring a spinning and casting rod with me and I fish with a lot of high end gear so I love that I'm able to but my rod in the holder instead of in the dirt. I want a separate sling bag because when me and my friends go to private ponds we do a lot of moving around so it would be nice to have a separate bag that only hold a little bit of tackle.

I've only heard great things about the Wild River tackle backpacks. I'm in the search for one as well and I'm leaning towards the Wild River by CLC WT3604 Tackle Tek Nomad Lighted Backpack with Four PT3600 Trays on Amazon. The reviews look really good on it too.
