Someone is laying the eggs to hatch all those dinks and if you tend to only see big bluegills, that same someone is most likely keeping the bluegill population in check by eating the medium sized ones. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, after hooking up with a dink or bluegill, your line suddenly gets real heavy and your drag starts screaming as the she beast devours your catch and heads for the other side of the pond. Looking forward to the picture Interestingly, this pond used to produce some big bass. My buddy has an 8 pounder on the wall that come out of it. The first time I ever fished there with him, 15 years ago, I caught one 6.5 lb. We weighed and released it. I've probably fished there 100 times since and haven't caught anything bigger than 2 lbs. I did catch one that was maybe 1.5 lb. with a 6" bass down its throat. That fish has a chance at reaching good size because it's eating the plentiful forage, small bass. I released it. I have used all the big bass baits to try to cull the dinks. But I still catch dinks on them. I keep all the dinks I catch in there and put them in his basket for him to eat, but it hasn't seemed to make any difference. Most of the bass I catch have a concaved stomach, like they haven't eaten in days. Even the fish i see on beds are dinks. That leads me to believe they're getting to be several years old, but stunted. 2 Quote
GoneFishingLTN Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 It might be in this thread but when does these get aired on the app motv? Quote

Just like me every time I'm on the water. I would like it more if you saw a variety of both large and small fish... but when the average fish at each tournament is small and you rarely see anything over 3 lbs, you do question the format a bit. I still think a 15 inch minimum would be a good compromise. 1 Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 MLF is just a great format, all around. 3 Quote

I hope Ott Defoe’s show, “The Hunt for Monster Bass,” is better than last season. I expected better. Show me something other than slow-motion jumping fish and slow-motion underwater shots and slow-motion drone views. lol. That's how I've seen that show from day one. I tried watching one episode and gave up. And I like watching Ott DeFoe on MLF. Hunt for Monster Bass looks like one of those videos that plays on monitors in Bass Pro Shops or some other outdoor store. It's really a badly produced series. I'm a big fan of MLF too but I got a little ticked off last year. They kept talking about a World Championship but I didn't see it on the Outdoor Channel. I was flipping thru the channels one night and found MLF World Championship on the CBS Sports Network, which is a crappy network. I was upset I missed some episodes so didn't even watch. Still, MLF is my favorite show on TV, by far. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 I don't even DVR MLF because it's pretty much on every weekend. If i catch it, I watch it. If I don't, I catch it later. By the end of the year, I'm watching reruns. But I do like the show a lot. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted January 4, 2019 Super User Posted January 4, 2019 The fact the pros on this "tour" take it so seriously is what I enjoy. The real time updates play with each contestant's head and that adds the tension. Most of all, the angler's commentary about their thought process and decisions makes the one pound requirement bearable. I DVR the shows and watch them after Judge Judy is over. Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted January 6, 2019 Super User Posted January 6, 2019 Watching it now, recorded earlier.... OK, this is pretty cool. "Dink fest." Heh, it's January -- I'll take some vicarious dink action over no action. 3 Quote
Carolina Rig Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Does anyone know if there is a way to watch these with a Fire Stick? Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 7, 2019 Super User Posted January 7, 2019 Is MLF trying to keep the results under wraps? The haven't posted any of the scoring on their website or app. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 7, 2019 Author Super User Posted January 7, 2019 Watched Saturday's show. Tough day for those competitors for sure. They did get some nice bass, but very few of them. I still enjoyed watching. Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 It amazes me that supposed pro anglers have so little confidence-or shame- as to drive up on the leader, watch what he is fishing, and then start running that pattern 100 yards up the bank from him. Pitiful. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 9, 2019 Super User Posted January 9, 2019 Was last episode of the new season won by Randy Howell on Lake Murray in OK? My cable company cut the Outdoor Channel but I do have WFN and that episode came on Monday. Quote

BoatSquirrel Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Brandon Coulter pulled Mike Iaconelli’s famous move, “lets go see what (insert leader’s name here) is doing.” Great start to his MLF career. Sure it made him a lot of friends. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 9, 2019 Super User Posted January 9, 2019 There was 1 local angler in the 1st event at Lake Murray, OK and finished last! Half the bass weighed ranged between 2 3/4 to 5 1/4 lbs, not a dink feast and shows it pays to fish your strengths. MLF format is by far the most entertaining TV bass fishing program and looking forward to watching this years schedule. Tom 1 Quote
redmexican5081 Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I know a lot of it has to do with the editing and time compression to fit it all in to the 2 hours, but I love seeing how each angler is fishing different water at the same time. Some are a bit deeper, some right on the banks, some are in clear looking water and some are in brown water. I don't typically see that on the bodies of water that I fish and it amazes me how drastically different a single body of water can be yet these guys are still catching fish. 1 Quote

I never understood the people who dislike it and think it's a dink fest. I think they got too accustomed to half hour shows that were filmed over days and only show their best catches. 1 Quote

Some have even joked this was part of Boyd's intentions as that was one of his favorite moves when he was on the Elite series. I could also see guys using it as a way to eliminate water. If Hackney and Bobby Lane are lighting up the scoreboard with 3lbers, how many guys will just start flipping shallow because they "figured" out part of the pattern? I'm looking forward to their inaugural season and will interested in how things play out. 1 Quote
