I have wondered sometimes if he caught the big fish first and they had to edit to make it later in the show. Sometimes he fishes more than one day. WFN got moved to another package for Dish Network and I would have to pay more for just that one show. It is funny to see them get so excited. When they hook up and and are like "OMG ITS A MONSTER!" 1 pound 12 ounces. I'm used to watching the elites, where they don't break a smile unless the fish is over 4 or 5 pounds. The new show airing Saturday, I'm guessing that's the Cup events filmed last year correct? I know there is a BPT tournament at the end of January, I'm pretty sure that one will be live streamed. 3 2 Quote

Super User Koz Posted January 3, 2019 Super User Posted January 3, 2019 Unfortunately I don't get the Outdoor Channel with my Direct TV package so I'll have to wait until the repeats are shown on the Discovery Channel. Adding OTV would cost $4.99 a month which may not seem like much, but it would be a 10% increase in my DTV bill. Last fall I did get Direct TV to cut my bill in half by threatening to go to the Playstation Vue streaming package. I'll wait another few months, threaten to switch again, and see if they'll throw in OTV for free. As far as the MLF format, I like it. Depending upon the lake the pros can either target landing a ton of dinks or go for bigger bass. But so far in all of the events I have seen the anglers have gone for quantity over quality, but that may change with some of the venues this season. The other day on Discovery Channel I saw they also had a wrap up show at the end of the tournament that showed the tackle and techniques that each angler used to win each round. That was interesting. I hope this year during the coverage they have a screen overlay to show what lures each of the pros are using during the event. Quote

But the Dish guide shows episode 1 on Outdoor Channel and episode 2 airing on WFN. And Dish is offering the outdoor package with both channels for $2/month for 6 months. Quote

I wish they would raise the minimum size somewhat - doesn’t have to be 4 lbs but maybe at least 15 inches or 2 lbs or similar. Otherwise it can turn into a dink-fest. Don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve always viewed catching pound-and-a-half fish as a negative, where I need to adjust and find a different pattern and bigger fish. I like MLF a lot, but when you rarely see 4 or 5 pound fish, somethings wrong... 3 Quote

MLF is fun to watch though because there is a lot of action, I watch it every Monday night when it airs on WFN. I do wish they would raise the size/weight requirements from time to time, even if it was for just for some of the elimination rounds. I'd think electronics manufactures would prefer the 5 biggest as well, current MLF rules promote a lot of bank beating instead of taking the time to find bigger fish offshore with electronics. I'm pretty excited to see how they setup the live streaming for the upcoming Bass Pro Tour. 1 Quote

That perspective changes based on where you are fishing. If you are on the Sabine or Delaware rivers, 1 to 2 lb fish are a positive. If you are fishing El Salto, 4 lb fish are a bother. Personally, I never consider any bass of any size a negative. If I have a choice between catching 25 bass in the 1 to 2 lb range or just one or two 3 lb fish, I'll take the former. I'm not in a tournament, so the weight means less than the action. Plus I find the 1 to 2 lb bass to be more acrobatic & creative in their attempts to escape. Fun fishing should be fun. 3 Quote

These guys on TV routinely call a 3 lb bass a monster. I'd just call that "nice". But in MLF, if you could stand there and catch 15 inchers all day, you'd almost certainly win. My buddy has a pond that has hardly a fish in it over 2 lbs. Sometimes I just tie a Rooster Tail on a really lightweight combo and have a ball on the dinks and big bluegills. Quote

The interesting thing is there may be 1, just 1, queen of the pond roaming around your friends place. Someone is laying the eggs to hatch all those dinks and if you tend to only see big bluegills, that same someone is most likely keeping the bluegill population in check by eating the medium sized ones. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, after hooking up with a dink or bluegill, your line suddenly gets real heavy and your drag starts screaming as the she beast devours your catch and heads for the other side of the pond.
