Brett Stair Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Got a couple of rods and reels for Christmas and about to go get everything set on them. When you go out to practice do you stick with one lure or throw a bunch? One is a crank bait rod with a 5.4 on it so I plan on throwing some cranks out there and seeing what it takes to “feel” the lure. The other is a heavy 7’ with a 7.3 on it. What should I “practice” with it? Quote
Eric J Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Some days I will go out to work with a single type of bait or even a single bait. Forces me to concentrate on that one till I feel confident. Buckets or sight markings in the backyard are great for casting practice with a weighted line as well. Eric J Quote

What should I “practice” with it? The 7 footer would make for a good Texas rig and jig rod . Instead of practicing maybe just go fishing and stick a few fish .Select several lures that will effectively work in the cover and structure you encounter . I never liked the idea of sticking with one lure just for practice . Quote
EGbassing Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 I would just take one rod and practice with that one all day. You can never be too good at flipping, cranking, etc. Quote
SWVABass Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Some good ideas posted above. I would select 1-2 techniques dependent upon the time of year and focus on those. That way your not slinging a topwater when a jerkbait would be more effective. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 1, 2019 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2019 When practicing for a tounament I'll throw almost everything at them.. If I stick one I'll shake it off, make a mental note of what, where and how I used it to find a pattern and then hit it hard.. Mike Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 1, 2019 Super User Posted January 1, 2019 Go fishing and practice catching bass. Tom Happy New Years 1 Quote
