SC53 Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Ordered a Dobyns 735 that I’m planning on using mainly for 3-5” swim baits and frogging. The frogging will be in sparse pads only. I’ll use my existing heavy setup for the thicker stuff. I use braid on my heavier stuff but prefer floro or mono on my other outfits. I was thinking of going with 17-20# floro on this one. I know I will potentially be under-gunned in the pads if the big one hits but I’m willing to accept that trade off for a lighter outfit I can throw longer. Whatcha think guys? Quote
CroakHunter Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Absolutely nothing but braid for me when I'm throwing a frog. 6 Quote

CroakHunter Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 My exact line choice would be 50lb daiwa j braid x4 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted December 31, 2018 Super User Posted December 31, 2018 I would at least go 30# braid if you're tossing into even sparse lily-pads. Since the line's weight is negligible compared to the rest of the setup - better to be safe than sorry. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted December 31, 2018 Super User Posted December 31, 2018 IMO using anything but braid for frogs in heavy vegetation is shooting yourself in the foot and not even worth fishing them. If if it were me I'd go 40 or 50lb braid and then use a leader for the swimbaits. 1 Quote
SC53 Posted December 31, 2018 Author Posted December 31, 2018 Ok Sounds like braid is the answer. Thanks guys. Quote
Smalls Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 There’s just too much “umph” needed to set the hook on any frog to get those hooks driven in. They’re not small hooks. Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 3, 2019 Super User Posted January 3, 2019 50 pound braid, usually Power Pro although I may give Sufix 832 Camo a try this spring. Quote
