Nice!  I thought I recognized the face from somewhere. Very nice class of fish.  I always like going to google earth and try to figure out where Steve is fishing.  Looks like not too far from where we were last fall.  I would've thought it to tight of water for a big boat, but apparently not.  How much of the river were you able to cover, if you don't mind me asking?  BTW, I was rooting for you. That one would have counted in my boat.

There’s a number of spots on that stretch that support a larger boat (with some common sense) but the farther you go downstream, the safer to navigate.  Most every stack of laydowns or boulders hold smallies and/or walleyes.  We were challenged that day because the water was high and the strong current made it really tough to get into and stay in the strike zone.  We were both really surprised the topwater wasn’t more explosive early in the day, but again I think the current had something to do with it.

We can discuss more location specifics at the MN-BR get together later this winter..

Does anyone have a good shop around the metro for reel repair?  I have a 3-4 yr old revo winch that I have not used much that will simply not cast very far anymore.  I've tried cleaning/lubing everything I could and it still won't cast - used to be able to sling a 6XD a mile on this thing.  I've been reading this may be common with these reels, but thought I'd get a shop's opinion before I dumped it.  Thanks in advance.

I take my reels to Tim at Wayzata Bait.  Up North I think Thorne Bros might do reel work, I know they do rod repair..

Have you tried Abu Garcia customer service directly? I've heard their reel customer service is quite good.

Fry,

When is that get together?  Like to try to make it, though weekends are tough.

BTW, those were some real pretty fish in the pic. Outstanding colors.

Depending on where and when that is, I might be able to make it. Let us know.

It’s been talked about but not formalized yet.  It will be hard to schedule a date/location everyone can make, but below are best options.

Everyone please weigh in and let us know your preference, and feel free to invite others on this site that don’t maybe monitor this time of year.  Maybe we’ll need to do a poll/vote, and whatever majority we get we’ll go with:

•Thurs Feb 7 dinner and/or drinks at a Twin Cities location TBD

•Weds Feb 20 dinner and/or drinks at a Twin Cities location TBD

•Thurs 3/21 late afternoon at a bar near Mpls Convention Center - then head into NW Sportshow

•Fri 3/22 late afternoon at a bar near Mpls Convention Center - then head into NW Sportshow

Whatever we pick, we should hit Glenn up for some Bassresource.com logo wear or customize our own as “MN-BR” ;)

I wouldn't be able to do a dinner or hit the NW Sportshow - my time constraints for various reasons prohibit it.

A couple hours of a meet-and-greet over drinks would be doable though.

Anybody planning on wading in the river for winter smallies?

I’ve never tried it but am interested. Do you need insulated waders?  I just have some cheap hip waders for launching the boat..

Full waders

ive seen it a lot on YouTube

Look up on YouTube: “Nattie Up North”...she was just there

I was in Monticello a couple of times this winter. Insulated waders not necessary but you obviously will be warmer.

I wear my full waders.

There is a runnings near there that you can pick up live bait at. People fishing with live bait out fish non live about 5 to 1.  I will bring live next time I go.

Any Thursday would work for me.  Wednesday I usually fish, but then again, I would only be missing some ice fishing.

North metro tavern, as long as I'm throwing in my 2 cents...

Are we sure its not already coming?  It was almost 50 degrees out the past couple days.  During the coldest time of year too.

If anyone is looking for a nice crankbait combo (duckett white ice 7'4 MM w/ 5.5 curado) OR a nice medium spinning combo (company that can't be named) HIT ME UP. Discounts for the folks in here.

Gotta thin the herd a little.
