zell_pop1 Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I quit using Yo Zuri as I got breaks in the middle of the spool I guess all Fluoro lines do it at times if you have had an overrun. I went to Gamma copoly and I think it's better. I also like McCoys. This year I am going to try the Sunline Defier lines to see if they are worth the hype, if not it is back to Gamma or McCoys. Quote
TBAG Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I use YZH on my spinning outfits, never tried it on my baitcasting setups. I use 6lb on my Ned Rig and weightless Senko setups and it's been great. Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 I've never used copolymer before. I'm thinking about trying it to save money on my bottom contact baits, is it as sensitive as fluorocarbon? Quote

One of the methods to get rats nests out of baitcasters is to tighten the drag all the way down, press down on the tangled line with your thumb, and crank the reel a few times. Repeat until the rats nest is gone. I have found on fluorocarbon lines especially (and sometimes co-polys like YZH) this can cause small fractures in the line - and you get break offs later. For this reason, I only use that method to free tangled line with braid - and I tediously “pick out” rats nests on all fluorocarbon and sometimes Yo-Zuri. Sucks, but it saves the line.. Quote

The Fisher Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Silver Thread AN40 especially 6-8# on spinning set ups...12# on bait casters Quote
SnaggedAgain Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 McCoy's has done well for me the past 2 years. Mean green (12lb casting) or clear blue fluorescent (6lb spinning). Seems strong, had a few I thought would break me off for sure after running for cover in a laydown or ledges and boulders. As another user has mentioned it has good knot strength, little memory and casts well. Quote

Both go on baitcast reels. 8# on a couple spinning reels. Quote
Chris007 Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 I've been using izorline xxx super co-polymer in 12lb and 15lb test for years. But I have had no problems with this line and at a much better price point. I buy it in the big rolls to save extra $... My spinning reel I use braid with Fluorocarbon leader. Tight lines! Quote

Tuffy Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 An40 12lb on casting reels An40 8lb on most spinning reels, but I do use 10lb on one specific smallie rig. I really liked the P-line C21 12lb on my casting reels but nobody in my area carries it, come to think of it I haven't seen Silver Thread in stores for about 10 years. The wonderful world of "just in time inventory" these days. I don't care for flouro coated lines... Had too many break offs... Yes ,I now how to tie a knot. not limp enough either, The CXX reminded me of Excalibur... Probably all made in the same factory. I'd guess that Silver Thread Excalibur is simply the old Bagleys Black label line renamed, I tried it a few years back and it was as dreadful as the black stuff was during the late 80's. Tough, but not limp enough. My wife still uses that old black label pony spool for hanging decorations in windows during the holidays Do IGFA line rules even apply to record catches anymore ? I haven't seen IGFA ratings in years. Though off the copoly topic. I really like Stren Magna Thin 6 and 8lb test for lighter spinning applications. I've landed 7 lb Bass on light rods with 6 lb test while fishing Gillies, and very nice Northern as well. Nice thin limp line. Quote
I'm Blue Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I really liked the old black label silver thread and excalibur back in the 90's, till I got into Pline the CX not the CXX. Used 12lb on most of my casting rigs. Just getting back into fishing after about a 20 year break been using Suffix elite, and suffix advance. 12, 14, and 17.. All my artificial lure bass to date have been on crankbaits with 12lb Suffix advance,,, cant say it is as sensitive as braid,, but doenst feel like a rubberband like old original stren and Trilene XL did. Super User Montanaro Posted May 5, 2019 Super User Posted May 5, 2019 I prefer copolymer and have tried a couple extensively. 1. Yozuri Hybrid: initial impressions were good. Touted as low stretch but am not convinced. Has a thicker diameter/breaking stength than listed. My 8lb (more like 11) is what I use for cranks and have broke off 4 times in last for outings....on casts. I also had just spooled it up for this year so it has no damage from previous backlashes. I also had a knot slip on a big bass but that may have been from lack of concentration when tying. Overall I tend to have positive impressions of YZH. 2. Pline CXX: another line that is overrated. Can be stiff and unmanagable but is very tough. Not my favorite. 3. Pline CX: Possibly my favorite. More accurate diameter to strength rating. More manageable than CXX. I use 20 pound for chatterbaits and have hauled 5 pounders out of spatterdock fields with it. I really dont see the need for CXX. I want to try Maxima ultra green next due to thin diameters. Quote
Rpratt Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 I lost alot of fish yesterday using P-Line Tactical as a leader. It was not breaking at the knot, it was snapping right in the middle. Big thumbs down ? Quote

I use the 12lb and find it to be very strong line. Quote

I was using 8 lb line with 12 lb braid on a spinning reel. It is I use for wacky worming. It was breaking off on the hook set of which I do more reeling into a fish then let er rip. Quote

I use Yo Zuri Hybrid, but I don't use 15 anymore...it's just too stiff. 12 is as high as I'll go. I highly recommend KVD Line conditioner with all YZH. +1 on the KVD line Conditioner - it will make you like #15 lb. or higher YZH a lot more ! Quote
