Single Colorado Blade Spinnerbait For Stained Water ?

For those that throw a single Colorado spinnerbait -  which do you tend to favor : 3/8th oz. #5 Colorado blade or 1/2 oz.#6 Colorado blade for slow rolling ?

I like the old Blakemore Charlie Campbell spinnerbait . It was a 1/2 ounce lure with , I think , a number 7 hammered copper Colorado blade . I use to wake it and slow roll it . That big copper blade won me a club tourney .

I have some of the original Stan Sloane Zorro short arm baits with a single Colorado blade. I believe it is a size 4 blade. They are 3/8 ounce. They are great for slow rolling.

Nothing smaller that a #5 blade on either 3/8 or 1/2 oz.

1/2 dollar US coin is 1.2 D about size Colorado blade, 1 silver dollar coin is 1.5 about size 6 blade. Based on that I would go up  4 and 5 for single bladed spinnerbaits.

1/2oz #5 at the smallest, prefer a 3/4 or 1oz with a #6 or #7 but they're hard to find without making a custom order, especially with the hammered copper or gold blades that I like.

*I believe as the numbers get higher , so does the size of the spinnerbait blade ? About the largest Colorado blade I have seen easy to obtain was a #7 size Colorado blade .

*That's why I went with a 1/2 oz. #6 Single Colorado (even in shallow water)  to try so the spinnerbait will run true , stay down and not tilt up on it's side .

#6 might be too big for a 1/2oz. Too big of a blade and not enough weight makes them not want to run right about as bad as anything.

I like a 1/2oz bait with a #5 Colorado, that blade provides good thump at slow speeds. I also like it because it is still balanced well enough that I can reel it a little faster in super shallow water and the bait won't roll over.

I fish single spins with Colorado blades in cold water or at night slowly or helicopter on the fall, you want the blade to spin with only the weight of the spinnerbait, if it stops spinning on the fall it's too big of a blade. Size 2 Colorado blades on a 3/4 oz twin spin works better for me then a single thumper most of the time.

Gotcha. I haven't seen a half-dollar or silver dollar in thirty years or so. I imagine most kids have never seen one.

If anyone is looking for some large hammered copper Colorado blade I have some.  I would guess they are size 8 or bigger? Will sell for  $0.25 each and can post some pics is interested. They are way too big for anything I would use.

Nice! Catt. I didn't know they were making a 1/2 oz Beatle Spin. I'm gonna have to get some. I thought 1/4 oz was the biggest

Not to be a stickler or anything, but the package says it's a 1/4 oz  I get your point though. The 3" used to be a very common size available in multiple weights and colors many, many years ago, then they really pared down their selection. I used it a lot in the spring as a finesse type spinnerbait and did well on it. Good to see they are bringing it back to a degree, though I'm convinced they changed the original mold some, and have certainly limited color and blade options in the newer lineup.
