Hi Everyone,

I am trying to get back into bass fishing after a long hiatus. I posted a question about getting my neglected reels back in shape and the answers/links you provided were very helpful! They did the job!

So, on to fishing line. I've looked a many past posts on this topic and the options are mind boggling (application, technique, lure selection, visibility, preference, etc.). I remember all the times I tried to fill my reels with a line that would meet a certain need. I was buying line that I next to never used! So now that I'm trying to get back into it, I want to get line that would kind of span all sorts of different applications, at least until I can get experienced enough to be able to purchase/put certain lines on that would best serve an application.

This brings me to the meat of my question. I was looking at Yo-zuri Hybrid. It seems to fit the bill of what I'm looking for no matter what lure I had tied on. Is this the right choice?

Thanks....Joe

I’ve heard really good things about the yozuri hybrid. Are you using spinning or baitcasting reels?  If spinning I would definitely consider braid. Casting is much harder and really depends on a lot of what you are fishing and where you are fishing.  If you plan on fishing frogs and in weeds and slop then I would probably go with braid as well.

Trilene XL 12 lb test mono. Simple, effective, cheap.

I've heard good things about YZ hybrid but just haven't tried it yet.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid is an excellent line, smaller diameters for spinning, and

12# an "all-around" for casting...

It is a great leader to attach to braided line. I use braid for mainline on

every one of my reels. Just how I roll. I feel it manages better, especially

on spinning gear. And using YZH (and other lines) as leader, I am able to

keep my braided mainline for longer periods, cutting it less thanks to

having a leader.

YZH great all round line... hard to beat IMO..

I too have been having a line dilemma as of late.

Yo-zuri hybrid is a great multipurpose line (I like the ultra soft), you might also like trilene sensation, I have found the two to be pretty similar in performance. Sufix Advance is a newer line I've really been enjoying, too.

Lately though, I have been wanting to go to a braid and leader system for most of my setups.

Thank you all! I would use both spinning and casting.

I have considered the braid option, but isn't it pretty expensive? I've seen posts about using old mono as backing to make it more affordable. Unfortunately all the mono I had from years ago was pretty deteriorated so I tossed it. I do have some old flouro that seems in good shape, will this fill the bill for backing?

Also what about the visibility of braided lines? haven't looked into them much.

Thanks....Joe

I've not used Y0-Zuri Hybrid, but it is well thought of on this forum.  Personally I think line type seldom plays a part in line visibility....as far as the fish is concerned.  I don't use much braid except when visiting Florida where the vast majority of my fish come on straight 40# braid.  No leaders.

I am partial to monos and co-polymers having been strictly a Trilene XL user growing up.  Actually there were no braids as we know them today back then.  :rofl_red:  At least I don't think so.  There are many good lines in both categories (mono/co-polymer) for you to choose from.  Some I've used and liked are Silver Thread AN40, McCoy Mean Green, Sufix Siege, Trilene Big Game and Izorline XXX.

Trilene Big Game mono is hard to beat on casting reels.

Thank you! I think I'll do the KISS principle and start with Yo-zuri Hybrid and McCoy Mean Green. Since they are fairly inexpensive lines I can fill my spools with them and worry about expanding my line selection later.
