I've been comparing these two boats that are at currently the same price

2008 Ranger Z21 - 30K SC

Twin power poles

Mercury 250 two stroke - 250hrs

Bobs hydraulic jack plate

Console and Bow Humminbird Helix 9s

112 Fortrex.

2012 Skeeter 20i DC 120 HRS

250 Yamaha Sho 4 stroke

Basic electronics

No jack plate or power poles.

Terrova

Both boats are Clean

To me the ranger is a far better looking boat. The skeeter seems to be worth a little more due to being newer.

If you don't like the looks of the Skeeter why consider it?

4 year newer boat, with 4 stroke engine @ 120 hours run time, other that it's plain vanilla off the shelf rig. The Ranger on the other hand has been set up for tournament bass fishing, 2 Stroke Merc ? 250 @ hours. $30K for 10 year old rig, better be in excellent condition, garaged etc.

post-265-0-81360700-1359921622_thumb.jpgI have a 2008 Ranger Z-21 with a Yahama250 HPDI, Lowrance Electronics & everything else is the same. The ride between the 2 boats is like night & day. The ranger has the soft ride seats which makes great ride. It is also a dry ride. My buddy has a 21 ft. Skeeter & it will beat your brains out in rough water & give a bath.

Sounds like your buddies skeeter is not an I series hull. My understanding from others that the I series is a very stable and dry ride.

Because it's a shared boat between my father and I. The ranger 40th anniversary boat just looks really nice to me. I get the Skeeter is newer, has less hours and a four stroke. Those are all great to have. The lack of a jack plate bothers me. Trolling motor and electronics aren't really much of an issue.

Speed tends to affect the boats ride, Skeeter is a faster hull then Ranger.

No Jack plate is a possitive meaning it's more then likely hasn't been hot rod driven at max speeds.

The bottom line is it's your boat and sounds to me you really like the ranger. Is the Merc an Optimax? Whatever it is have the engine checked by a cert Merc mechanic, at 350 hours things can start to go wrong.

Both sound like a clean Well cared for rigs, good luck.

Not looked at Skeeter boats lately have you ?

The 21i & 20i were Skeeter's top of the line & are extremely far from plan or vanilla!

It's first driver & then a combination of all three in the proper proportion; length, width, & horse power.

I have and fished out a 2012 21i to help a freind to learn how to control chine walking.

The Skeeter DC is a faster hull then the Ranger SC about 5 mph if everything is equal.

The later 2016 model 21i is easier to drive, the 2012's can be a little tricky at top speeds without a jack plate.

When I say plain vanilla referring to stock without options like a jack plate and SC, not that it isn't a top of the line bass boat. I like Skeeters and owned them. The OP likes Rangers as far as I can determine. The Ranger is decked out with All the tournament goodies and that to me is a negative, road hard and put away wet as the saying goes.

I did make a mistake on the size of the Skeeter's boat. my buddy has the same boat as the above Skeeter. The same year model with the same engine & no jackplate. I have ridden in that many times & when the lake gets rough It's a rough & wet ride.
