ProMax vs. Revo X vs. Tatula CT

I’m looking for an affordable baitcasting reel that will last a decent length of time. I have two Abu Garcia BlackMax reels that have worked well but they are wearing out after a few seasons. I want to get a reel that will last longer and I have narrowed it down to three reels:

 

Abu Garcia ProMax $80

Abu Garcia Revo X $100

Daiwa Tatula CT $130

 

I know these reels are not equivalent in price but I am trying to decide if the more expensive reels will be worth their price in terms of lasting longer. Which should I choose?

Almost everybody on here will say the tatula. People might also recomend the fuego for a little cheaper. I have not tried either but I can definitely say I am not the biggest fan of the lower end abus.  If you were to ask me I would say get a lews lfs, but that is coming from a lews fan.?

 I would  go with the Tatula CT, or  gen 4 revo sx. both are nice reels. I own both.

they are both usually in your price range on amazon or e-bay. usually cheaper on  e-bay

IMHO the pro max and revo x are overpriced for what they offer.

You're probably right. Shimano and Daiwa reign supreme due to the quality of the product they sell and back. The Shimano SLX and Tatula CT are great reels around your price range. I recommend them both over the Lews.

You can get the Fuego ct for $60 and its essentially the same reel as the ct. You can also get the Tatula 100 for $100 on Ebay.

If you haven't already done so, I'd try to get my hands on each one mounted on a rod at your local tackle store. Even to though the Tatula is supposed to be "compact", it's still a bigger reel and is gonna fit your hand different than the other two.

The Tatula ct type r is on tackle warehouse right now for $104. I picked one up and it seems really nice. I haven’t used it yet but I hope to in the next couple days

That's what I thought. I wound up with $100 in ebay gift cards and my son gave me another $50 so I've been looking at some reels currently on sale. Debating on when to buy.

Not used any of those 3 models.  I own several brands and admit that overall Daiwa is my favorite brand.  I do have an original Tatula.  I like Daiwa braking systems.

 

However, there are 2 reels I would add to your list...the Tournament Pro G on sale at TW for $120 ($200 normally) and the Supreme XT that can be found for $90 on ebay ($150 normally).  This is a 6.4:1 model.  I had to pay $120 for a LH model (only available in 7.1:1).  Not used it yet, but seems very nice, and reviews are all good.  Excellent reviews on the Pro G as well.

Both the revo and Tatula offer durability beyond the Max models and imo the Tatula features are best, while on the water performance may be less apparent.

I like my Tatulas but the twing is not ideal for leader knots if you throw leaders. For under $100 retail the Lews LFS is the best I’ve thrown. I like the Revo SX and STX but they require a bit more thumb than my Lews or daiwa. The new SLX looks like a really nice $100 option as well. Haven’t tried it yet though

 

If you are looking for durability and a reel that will last 10 years then I’d possibly look to spend a little more and get in that $150 msrp range.

Save some bucks and shop on eBay for a reel as there are many on sale currently. Even if you buy the cheaper offering you can at least get some more bang for the buck!

 

eBay currently has a 10% back in bucks promo going on if your eligible for it.

 

Here's a couple of Abu examples as 2 of 3 options are Abu.

Revo4 X is $68 and up....Slight variation in price by gear ratio.

Revo4 STX is $114 and up....Same as above

 

The only Abu I've used is the Revo MGX-SHS I picked up a couple of years ago. Haven't had any issues with it so far. Probably got 100+ hours of flinging lipless baits on it. Don't even want to think about how many casts that equated too.

 

There's a lot of options currently on sale on eBay that'll come in under your budget. Take a look at some of the Lew's offerings as they've got some nice reels on sale for under or at your stated price points.

 

I would think that price would probably dictate quality of a reel more than longevity. It would really depend on how a person takes care of them in the end.

I vote tatula ct. Can be found all day for $95ish in left or right and all 4 speeds.

 

To me the biggest thing to durability and longevity of any reel is properly maintaining it. Regular cleaning and oil/grease is key, wether its a $50bps special or a $500 steez.
