ba7ss3in Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I'm asking here because I'm trying to find pepole that fish the same style as I do. I'm trying to find out how do they change trolling motor batteries. I was told that for the amount of fishing, you need to change batteries ever year. I fish lakes and tidal rivers. Also, if you know of a good battery, please feel free. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 because of my dads work he can pick up marine batteries that didn't work or didn't fit a piece of equipment he fixes. I generally use those for my boat because there is a good supply of them for me. by the time i need new batteries theres a new set for me. Any free set is a good set to me! I change the batteries whenever the charge they hold gets weak over an 8 hr period of fishing. I understand when I run them down alot, but i mean when I couldnt have used that much charge for the time i've been on the TM. Quote

thetr20one Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I have Trojan batterries and they stay strong for at about three years usually. I have a three bank pro-charger and it lets me know when the are starting to get week by not lighting up all the leds. Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted April 1, 2008 Super User Posted April 1, 2008 I fish at least 100 days each year. I get 3-4 years out of a set of batteries. The key is to get 185-200 reserve amp batteries so that they will last all day long. Charge them up as soon as you get off the water and keep the terminals clean and the water level over the plates. I fish the maybe a little more than that. my batts are rated for 225 reserve and you are right maintenance is crucial and so easy. Batteries are the most forgotten component on the boat. a guy will take 20 minutes to wipe down has boat but wont take 5 to check the batteries. Quote
DEISWERTH Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I've learned a lot on this site about battery maint. One of the most important was to put your batteries on a charger (preferably an onboard charger) as soon as you get home from fishing. I'm beginning my fourth year on my battery's and they are still holding strong. Check the water and keep them plugged in till I'm ready to go fishing. Doug Quote
