I Have a Bass pro shops Johnny morris Carbonlight 2.0 Medium action Baitcasting rod what's the best baits to throw with it?

Posted

Is this your primary casting rod, or an addition to your aresenal?

It will likely be pretty versatile.  Poppers, jerk bait, sqaure bills, lighter jigs and Texas rigs, etc. As long as you don't go heavy punching or ultra finesse, you should be good to go!  Try to stay within the suggested lure rating printed on the blank.

I have the Pro Qualifier 7'M/F that I got in a combo deal (I only wanted the reel) and now I rarely get on the water without having that rod with me.

BTW "Medium" refers to the power of the rod.  The "action" or taper (where the tip bends) would be expressed as moderate, fast, extra fast, etc on a BPS rod.

Hayden, anything you want to throw as long as the line's test and bait's weight are within the rod's parameters stamped on the rod above the reel seat.

Experiment. That is part of the fun of bass fishing.

As for the best line test weight, add the low and high test numbers and divide by 2. Use this line test and you will have fewer line problems and you can cast far and also skip your baits easily.

How about going to the Introductions section and introduce yourself.

I know the 7' MH fast is the one rod everyone should have, but my 6'6" Med fast rods get a lot of use. Anything from small spinnerbaits, square bills, JBs, weightless plastics and topwater. Anything under 3/8 oz or so is fair game.

I take one fishing almost every trip . It gets used for a lot   of lures . I'll have a spinnerbait and lipless crankbait tied on it a lot .

I have that rod, but in the original black version. Probably my most versatile rod. Square bills and shallow to medium cranks, jerk baits, 3/16 to 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, and poppers. It's my "anything but a worm or jig rod".

Same here, really liked that rod. Used to throw 3/8oz chatterbaits and spinnerbaits up close. Also 200/300 size Bandits. Mine finally snapped during a cast one day. It's rated for 5/8oz I believe on the older ones and that was really pushing it IMO

I own a St.Croix Bass X with these specs. Use it mainly for soft plastic jerkbaits (5" flukes)

I had a nice 6-6 medium (it got broke). I fished a lot of Texas rigs, square bills, Traps with mine.

I woulda replaced it under warranty but it cost nearly as much as a new one.

I’ve kinda gone the other way in my thinking on rods. I know 7-0 MH is the standard but I’m really liking my 7-0 heavy and 7-3 heavy rods. For certain manufacturers (Hammer, Duckett) they’re not much heavier than a MH.
