Snags badly in the rocks and pushes the line down into the zebra mussels so almost every hookset results in a break off.

What's a stupid rig? Is there a pic available?

As you have seen above, the "Stupid Rig" is nothing more than a Texas rigged jig head setup in a tube.

Ike has used this setup for years as have other pros.

If you really want to do something crazy with a tube try this:

Stuff a quarter of an Alka-Seltzer tablet in the tube and then put some cotton (not much) in the tube to hold the Alka-Seltzer in place. Makes bubbles.

Take a cotton ball and soak in your favorite scent and stuff it inside your tube. Leaves a nice scent trail for the bass to follow.

Always try to put the tip of the hook back under the tube's skin if possible. You want to make the tube weedless, or "Stupid."

Have fun!

On the rare times I use a tube I have them Texas rigged. I haven't noticed them getting hung op any more than any other soft plastic would. I am usually on my last act of desperation to catch fish when I use them.

I havent tried the stupid rig yet  and in these photos it appears the hook is too long .It reaches the tentacles and cannot be pushed through the main body . Am I wrong ?

You are correct. Diagram(not mine) was to show how the hook end is inserted first and where to bring the point of the hook out of the tube. This part will take some trial and error to make sure the head of the jig is all the way to the top of the tube.

I do like and use the stupid rig on tubes, but I mostly Texas rig my tube on a 3/0 EWG Gammie and a pegged 3/16 slip sinker.  The only way I fished my tube until the stupid rig came along.  Both have a place.

A lot of the ponds that I fish are choked with weeds. When I’m fishing with a tube, I’ll usually have it t-rigged.
