Every year it's the same....

Dinner....Lasagne, shrimp scampi, Italian sausage with green peppers. 

Desert... coochidadi, gigilanie  cookies and cheese cake. 

 

My families traditional Sicilian meal. 

(No changes or substitutions)

For New Year's we are having either ham, crown rib roast, or a filet.

 

My wife is an excellent cook and she will have potatoes, a veggie, salad, and an outstanding dessert.

 

I am thinking of trying my luck making chocolate caramel salt cookies.

It dam sure ain't gizzard and hearts.  About the only way I want to see those on my plate is chopped up in giblet gravy sitting on a pile of cornbread dressing.

One of my favorite meals is a thick, fried breaded, pork chop, turnip or collard greens, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and purple hull crowder peas, a with a big wedge of cornbread and a glass of fresh buttermilk.  A little peach cobbler with a scoop if vanilla ice cream on top for desert.

Sounds like a meal fit for a king to me.  Gizzards and hearts take a lot of preparation, but when done correctly can be really good.   I don't eat them very often, but every once in a while I see them and can't resist.

Used to love oyster dressing for Christmas or Thanksgiving...(I was only one)  so......this went by the wayside.

Kind of a shame, I see or hear of a lot of people just pitching out the giblets, I often tell them how to use them along with the neck bone to make a killer gravy.  I see most people now use packets or jars of gravy, just not the same to me.

Dog is an Aussie puppy so I can't feed him from the table. Bummer.

 

Daughter-in-law not coming which means we will have a fun time with the kids and son.

Ah crap, I wish you hadn’t mentioned shrimp scampi. I made ravioli for Christmas and now I may have to back that up with scampi. ?

Good gracious......... I’ll have that........... but make my cobbler blackberry. My mom and cousin are making prime rib for supper tomorrow. Hopefully I will remember to post a picture here

I'll be having some of the finest Kielbasa in the land along with homemade mashed potatoes, candied yams and a fresh apple pie slice if there is any left by the time I'm done my meal.

For Christmas eve, I made beer battered flounder. It was only my second time attempting to make fish fry, and the first time called for 2 eggs but I think they meant to say egg whites because it just tasted like egg with the yolks. This time I went with a more traditional beer batter and used Elysum Bifrost winter all which is a bitter pale ale and it came out very good!

Today I'll be at the parents for a traditional Swedish dinner - potato sausage, swedish meatballs, sil, and other foods I grew up with.

 

It's nice that at 84 (both of them), my parents are still living independently in a duplex they bought 30 years ago. They're getting slower and mom's memory isn't what it use to be...but they still manage.

I will spend today with my Wife, Son, Granddaughter, Mom, and Brothers.    We are having one of my very favorite meals.  Turkey and noodles, mashed potatoes and corn.  My Mom will make us some good desert to go along with the meal.
