Super User Munkin Posted December 19, 2018 Super User Posted December 19, 2018 So are we going to be able to have a MD get together this year? I was thinking Piney Run or Black Hills as they are both central. Allen Quote

I'd be down for a fishing get together as well, but between the rain and dropping temps, not sure how much fun that'd be. Quote

Should have stated I want to do this sometime around June but I would be down for the other stuff. I could bring my tacklemaking stuff if anyone would be interested. Allen Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted December 19, 2018 Super User Posted December 19, 2018 I would absolutely be down for a meet up once spring gets here. Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Nice, and you guys are all 5 minutes away from each other, too! Quote

Logan S Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 If it's not a tournament weekend for me I'd probably be in...BH is only 20 mins from me and Piney is always a fun time. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 20, 2018 Author Super User Posted December 20, 2018 I guess we need to start coordinating now then. Allen Quote
Junger Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I'll start the organizing two events: Event 1 - Fishing Extracurricular Event: whiskey, cigars, tackle making, and other fun stuff. I'll host this at my home on the back patio with a bonfire (close to I-270 and Falls Road exit). I'll provide smoked ribs, 10yr Laphroaig, and German Bier if you don't do whiskey. You bring cigar(s), your favorite tackle set up (so I can drool over it), tackle if you want to trade, and whatever else fishing related. Tentative date is Sun. Jan 20th (most have MLK off) and back up date is Jan 26th...before it gets too cold and weather permitting. Event 2 - Central MD Fishing Event: Black Hills or Piney Run I think we'll have enough people with boats and/or kayaks to get off the banks. If not, Black Hills has ample bank/dock fishing, I am unsure of Piney Run though. Looking at the FOBA 2019 schedule, dates that would work in the spring would be Sat 5/11 or 5/25. Here's a list of possible attendees so far: Event 1 - @Munkin, @reason, @Junger, @fishwizzard Event 2 - @Munkin, @fishwizzard, @reason, @Logan S, @Junger, @Somd Fx4 Please PM or reply with the following: Event 1 - if Jan 19th or 26 work for you, and if not what dates would work (keep in mind Feb/Mar may not be that pleasant to sit outside) Event 2 - if you have a boat or kayak, and which venue you prefer (Black Hills or Piney Run), and if those dates would work for you, or alternative dates. NOVA folks welcome too! 1 Quote

Allen Oh man, thanks for the reminder, I went to it last year and bought a spinnerbait from a guy that I just loved, but of course never wrote down the vendor's name and have long since lost it. I will have to go back and see if I can find them again. EDIT: so yea, I would prefer the 26th assuming I am not working. Quote
Logan S Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 @Junger Don't plan anything around me and/or FOBA....It's far enough out now that I wouldn't be able to commit to anything yet and I'd hate to have anything based on me given that. Although....A few people in here have expressed interest this year so if you guys all end up in FOBA - Well then it might make more sense to plan around it .... Whether I make it or not I can offer this advice...While both are pretty good year round, BH fishes better overall May through June and Piney is a better mid to late summer lake. Quote
Somd Fx4 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I'm for May. My work schedule is no good for any time in January. I have never been to either of those place so either one works for me. I have a kayak that I would love to bring. Quote
Hellbenderman Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 Just join FOBA! We get together in Maryland all the time! Quote

Logan S Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Lol...I spam FOBA enough here so I don't want to turn this thread into something about it, so no more FOBA-talk in here. If this gets off the ground I'll try to attend, between tournaments and kids tough to commit early though. Can take one or two guys in my boat and I'll leave spots open for BR guys since it's a BR thing. Quote
Junger Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 I'll PM people for Event 2 (fishing get together) as we get closer to spring or warm up. Cigar, Whiskey, and Fish talk is tentatively going to happen Jan 20th around 6PM. Most people have MLK off. Back up date is Jan 26th. I've only sent PM to people who indicated they were interested, but PM me if anyone else is interested. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted January 5, 2019 Super User Posted January 5, 2019 I have a spare SOT yak and gear, but no reasonable way to transport both of them on my car but if would not mind loaning it out if transport could be worked out. Quote
Somd Fx4 Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 I'm excited to fish with someone beside myself. Hopefully I can learn a thing or two. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 6, 2019 Author Super User Posted January 6, 2019 I have an open back seat for a 18' bass boat . Allen 1 Quote
Somd Fx4 Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 hey guys reviving this thread we are in May. How is everyone looking for get together on the 25th? We obviously missed the 11th. I got a new kayak a few weeks back and need to get some seat time on it. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted May 12, 2019 Author Super User Posted May 12, 2019 I broke a rib on my left side so I am unsure when I can make it out. Allen Quote
microotter Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 I wasn’t active on here when planning was done but would be interested. Quote

We obviously missed the 11th. I got a new kayak a few weeks back and need to get some seat time on it. Unfortunately I'm out of town that weekend for my anniversary. Weekends in the summer get tough because of swim meets for my boys, the beach and vacations, and other stuff that most of my free time is last minute. If people decide to get together though, I'll do my best to make it, but I can't 100% commit to anything. Also @microotter and I got out today at Widewater. It was a really nice morning with cool air in the low 60's with cloud and some wind. I had got there at 6AM to try some topwater, and threw a buzzbait from the towpath road at the overflow structure to the bridge with no success. I saw a good size fish meander away from a spot I had thrown the buzzbait too, so it's not quite right for topwater there yet. Backtracked to the overflow structure to meet up with microoter at 7AM and we beat the banks with a variety of lures. He had one small one come off past the first bridge on a jig and craw. We kept going and there were lots of fishy spots, but I had to get to my sons soccer game at 11:30A so kind of rushed past a few spots and hit ones that I thought had produced better. Eventually we made it across to Berma road, and hit the wood laydowns. One spot, microoter had thrown a jig with no luck and I followed up with an underspin and got a bite, but it jumped in the air and spit the hook, good size fish. I inspected my lure and the hook never popped...bummer. The next laydown microoter put on a spinnerbait and immediately threw to the next laydown and hooked up with a nice 2+lber. A few casts later and I had to go, but I think the bite woulda gotten better with the wind and clouds coming. Fun day with great conditions, but not the best results, but I think it'll get better as more fish go post spawn and start into their summer pattern. Quote
