Mid-high end finesse/drop shot rod

I’m looking at adding a mid-high end finesse/dropshot spinning rod for next season but wanted to get all the information early. Most likely will throw a ci4+ on it as I love the one I currently have but confused on the rod. I don’t do a ton of finesse fishing but want to get more into it. I have a glx 852c that I’m using for wacky rig senko’s, shakey head, finesse jigs, but looking for a good spinning rod for dropshot, Ned rig maybe small flukes? Any suggestions?

I'm liking the Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS Spinning Rods.

Specifically the Brent Ehrler Drop Shot.

Nice mix of Light & sensitive, with a good tip & back bone.

What's your price range? I use a St. Croix LTB 6' 10" ML/XF for those baits and it's an excellent rod, but maybe more than you're looking to spend.

I have the same rod in the Mojo and have been really liking it. I’m sure the Avid version is also nice

What Tom suggests, too. You can't go wrong with a Dobyns. Look for sales in your area or on the Internet.

 

Remember, there are "rod specific" rods out there designed for drop shot and other specific techniques. Check them out.

Well I have a few months so I’m trying not to let price limit me. I started purchasing a few higher end rods later in the season (2 or 3 imx pro’s, 2 glx’s) and there just more fun to fish lol. 

 

The ltb I found so tip heavy on certain models. I’ve always wanted to try one but every time I was in the market for a new rod they just turned me off a little. I’m leaning more towards a legend elite or maybe the x, or another imx, glx

I’ll check them out, I’ve heard great things about the ags tatula Rods. I had a zillion rod up until mid last season that I liked a lot just didn’t have room in the arsenal for it

The new Tatula Bass rod line is excellent too. I have a 6'6" Med. and a 6'10" Med. and both are killer light weight rods. I prefer the cork grips over the foam. Very similar to the Elites in feel but some of the technique specific in the Elite line are more specialized. There's the new Tatula Bass rods available on ebay for $98.00!

I got both of mine from the seller and they are perfect. My 2 cents.

I use a Okuma EVX 6'10" Med/Fast with a Daiwa Legalis LT.  If i remember correctly ,the rod ran about $100 and the reel was about $70.

Not "high end" per say but I just bought a Dobyns 692sf from TW as it was too good of a deal to pass up. It will be paired with a Ci4+ and it's going to be my primary ned rig setup.It's probably replacing a Loomis GL2 802S I currently use for my Ned rigs. I don't know which rod I'll like more but the other will be relegated to a backup as I only carry one spinning setup in the yak. 

 

I've never owned a Dobyns spinning rod so I'm pretty pumped to get it and put it to the test.

Kistler Helium H3 are all on a nice sale on their site right now, I’m a *** fan of my H3rods but I’ve not tried a spinning rod from them yet. 

 

Those Tatula Elite AGS look so nice, I can’t get paste Eva grips myself, but I’ve considered them a few times. 

 

St Croix recommendation is a good one for sure, the medium light powered finesse blanks I’ve owned and handled were not tip heavy like the medium and medium heavy blanks.

How do you like the Seaguar finesse? Thinking about using it on my ned rig setup.

Thank you! I totally forgot about kistler. I have a helium casting rod now and love it! Super light, sometimes feel a little underpowered but that thing has never let me down. Super sensitive I love it! But never tried or hear sbything about there spinning rods actually.

 

your right I do prefer cork for sure.

 

ill look more into the st. Croix as well as I’ve never fished there high end ones. Curious between the money of the legend elite or x, how does it stack up against say a glx? I know a lot is preference between the two brands and definately a loomis guy myself I’m just curious towards the higher end st. Croix. Have an avid x that I’m impressed with

From my experience the Legend Elite and Legend Extremes are up their in sensitivity with the GLX. But frankly the blanks on my Helium 3s are also up there in terms of sensitivity. Of course it’s subjective to the user and ymmv. I love some St Croix rods, but I’ve found I prefer a bare unpainted blank over a painted blank. 

 

TackleTour did a review on a Kistler Zbone spinning rod at one point might be worth looking up. 

 

Someone mentioned the MB Addermine, if your spending GLX coin the Addermine is a killer stick, I love mine. But in my hands it’s a hair more powerful then a dropshot rod, it’s of an all purpose spinning rod or heavier dropshot rod. It’s s more powerful then a St Croix ML power.

All of my other spinning reels are Shimano. It compares very favorably so far. It is very smooth (as new reels should be). It feels well balanced when reeling. I haven't got a lot of stick time on it yet.

     It spooled up fine and fished fine. I haven't had anything big enough to test it out yet. Like the Tatsu line it was wrapped perfectly on the spool out of the package.

IMO, the St Croix MLXF blank is a great drop shot rod. Super tip to work the lure and good backbone to set the hook (I only fish drop shot Texas rigged). I have a first gen Mojo and an Avid, both great drop shot and ned rig rods.

I own 2, and LOVE them! Use them for small wacky worms, ned rigs, drop shot, and just about any light plastic application.

I own the same rod! It's on the lighter side, so if you prefer a stiffer drop shot rod or regularly catch large fish on a drop shot, you might prefer something a little stiffer. For me, it's perfect however and if you miss a bite, you have something seriously wrong with the nerves in your hands!
