Favorite fishing lines

I'm looking to simplify my line selection. What brands and types of line would you recommend? I intend on spooling 4 reels, 1 spinning and 3 casting. The spinning reel will be used primarily for finesse applications, one of the casting reels will be used for moving baits, another casting reel will be used for throwing jigs and Texas rigs, and the last casting reel will be just for topwater. Well, I like particular line for specific applications, but you were asking for suggestions

to "simplify" your choices.  #6 and #12 do just that.  Here is how it actually shakes out

for me:

 

#4 Yo-Zuri Hybrid for live bait, both smallmouth and trout

#6 Tatsu for all other spinning reels (weightless soft plastics)

#11 Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo for treble hooks

#15 Tatsu for jigs

#40 Smackdown/ #15 Tatsu leader for the Alabama Rig

I like #12 Sufix Siege for moving baits and top water. #12 Sunline super florocarbon for jigs and Texas rigs. #8 or #10 Sufix siege for your spinning rod.

Braid: Sufix 832

Mono: Berkley Big Game

Fluoro: Seaguar AbrazX (only use fluro for leaders)

 

Pound test varies according application...

I like Sufix Siege, 12 pound on baitcasting, 10 pound on spinning.

Fluoro: Sunline FC Sniper or PLine Tactical

Mono: Defier Armillo or Big Game

I've simplified my line a lot in the last few years.

 

Spinning:

10# power pro with 8# floro leader

 

Baitcast:

12# berkley big game mono on topwater/jerkbait setup

12# fc sniper on my cranking rod

50# 832 on my frog rod

16# fc sniper on everything else

I've tried several lines.  Long way from trying them all.  Personally I feel as long as you buy a known name brand line it will be hard to get a bad line.  I have heard of some people having breakage problems occasionally, but feel that it is like anything else you buy....sometimes bad gets through QC.

 

If you use a mono or co-polymer on the spinning reel, then look for a line that is soft.  Unfortunately this type of line is often stretchy.  Some good examples I have used are Trilene XL, Sufix Elite (I'm a fan) and Sunline Super Natural.  In co-polymers Izorline XXX, McCoy Mean Green or Silver Thread AN40.

 

I've tried P-Line CX 8# and 10# FluoroClear on baitcasters.  Did not like them.  Handled okay...especially the CX, but broke too easily.  Maybe I got some bad line. 

 

I use 8# or less on spinning reels.  Majority of ML and M casting rods get an 8# mono or co-polymer while MHs get 12# and Heavy rods 17# although I am thinking of trying some 20# line on one of my Heavy rods.

 

Pretty hard to get a bad braid.  I've used 40# Sufix Performance and liked it a lot although it fades quickly.  Fish don't seem to care.    It is a lot quieter through the guides than Original PowerPro......but nothing wrong with PP.  Hasn't seen a lot of use yet and may quiet down after it breaks in.  I am also using Sufix 832 and Fins.

Gliss with leader on spinning (18)
