What size President would you put on a 7' ML rod?

I'm getting a new 7' spinning rod. I prefer 6'6" rods, but there's a couple river dams I like to fish; I can't put a kayak down there and I can't wade it. I come up a little short on some good looking spots because of my inability to get into the water (just dangerous obviously) and the shorter rods. My question is: what size President would you put on a 7' ML rod - 25 or 30? I go with 25 on my 6'6" ML rods, but I'm wondering if I should bump to a 30 on a 7'.

I have a President 30 that came with a 6'6 Cabela's Tourney Trail combo, and it balances fine. I find that it's a little smaller than the Daiwa BG 3000 and Penn Battle II 3000 that I also have. What line are you going to put on it? If I were choosing between the 25 and 30, I'd consider line size too.

6lb Yo Zuri as is my standard. It's more like 8lb diameter as many people well know.

Prefer sub-6'6" rods myself, and 1000 size reels.

 

However, a 3000 President should balance well with a 7' rod.

If distance is your primary concern, the largest spool you can get away with is the answer. You can put a 25 size reel on a 10' pole but get litttle increase in distance over a 7 footer as the spool lip friction as the line gets closer to the arbor will ultimately govern how far you can throw a lure. All reels aren't created equal. The oscillation type and spool length will impact how well line leaves the spool too. Take a look at a Daiwa SS if you want extra distance. Old tech, but still in production. Line flies off the spool amazingly well. All things being equal, they'll outcast just about any reel of comaparable size. And the drag is world class.
