Help on jigs

I've been looking at jigs and I can't decide which jig I should get. I have narrowed it down to 2 different types of jigs, casting or flipping. I like to cast other slow moving presentations out as far as I can and work them back slowly so I was thinking casting but since I have plenty of snags in the ponds I fish I thought about flipping also. I'm really torn on which one.

I've been fishing jigs of various sizes and styles for a long time. Try some of each and see which ones work good for you. I wouldn't limit myself to one jig.If you can, be versatile in weights, colors, etc.

Sounds like you want an arky style jig. Something that'll come thru weeds easily? But it doesn't hurt to get a few different kinds.

There is a 22 page thread on this topic "Jig Fishing Questions" at the top of this forum and worth taking the time to read it. 

Bass jig types have continued to evolve since the above thread started and before that time there were hundreds to choose from. The site sponsor who makes jigs is Siebert Outdoors offering many different styles.

Casting jigs I consider a horizontal presentation and flipping, pitching, punching are vertical presentations. The grass type jigs are close to being universal, you can cast and retreive them and drop them into cover vertically without getting snagged too often.

I would start with a grass type jig if you plan on doing several different presentations with one type.
