Nai Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Looking to get a new flipping stick at most 7'7 and tied between these 2. Leaning towards mojo because my Dads seems pretty decent and it has a good warranty and seems like a good rod overall. But then there's the endurance, which has no warranty but seems very light and nice from what I've read. I also am curious if the mojos 7'6 model is a good flipping stick or if the 7'4 would be better. Any insight would be nice or a tie breaker, thx and have a nice day. Quote
Dr. Watson Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 I like my St Croix rods, I have an avid, a legend tournament, and a premier x. The quality St Croix puts out is excellent, even in the lower end rods. That being said, you may want to check out tackle tour. I seem to remember them doing reviews on both the mojo and the endurance when they first came out. You may find something in those reviews that tips your scale on which to get. 1 Quote

I love my Croixs but Powell has a pretty good warranty/replacement plan also. Check it out on their website. You don't even have to send back broken rods. Just upload a few photos based on their guidelines and pay the $70 fee. Defective rods are different. They must be sent in but they'll take care of you. I purchased a old Max a few years ago that was defective. They took care of me. 1 Quote

My gripe with the endurance is that to me the warranty doesn't seem very good. With the mojo I would just have to pay to get it shipped to them for warranty which would be $60 less than the endurance. From looking at powells website it is also only a year long warranty. The mojos is 5. I think I'm teetering pretty heavy towards the mojo. I probably will try powell as my next rod, probably a inferno. I don't know, its still up to debate in my head. Thanks for the info and advice you 2. Heres another question, on the mojo which would be a better flipping stick, the 7'4 or the 7'6? Is the 7'6 a noodle or a proper flipping stick? p.s. I will let you guys know my decision, and might have to ask about another tie breaker when I get my rod of choice (reel). Thx again and have a nice night Quote

Someone with more "flippin" experience will probably have a better answer though. 1 Quote

Thx again and have a nice night Remember, warranties only cover defects in craftsmanship. I've only had a handful of defective rods (and I have/had a ton of rods). I always look for replacement programs because the VAST majority of my broken rods were caused by accidents not defects. If you accidentally break your Mojo, you'll have to pay $15 to ship it to them (if they still offer the $15 FedEx label) then $55 to replace it. Where St. Croix differs is they have the upgrade program, which I've used several times. As for your other question...how heavy of a weigh and what kind of cover will you be flipping? I have the 7'6 MH-MF Rage (which is equivalent to the Mojo) and I wouldn't flip heavier than a 3/4 oz weight with it. I liked it better as pitching stick/big worm rod (when I used it). My 7'11 H-MF Legend Xtreme is way better suited for 3/4 oz+ and flipping in heavy junk. I also have the 7'4 H-F Avid X. I've never tried flipping with it, though I think it would work. To me, it's better suited for its intended purpose as a frog rod, even though I use mine for football jigs in deep water, mostly. 2 Quote

I am sorry If I'm bugging out but I thought if you broke the rod accidently you could still get a replacement? I'm probably wrong. I would primarily be using 1/2 jigs and t rigs around laydowns, some moderate grass, spatterdock, and lighter lily pads. I just don't want to go too long because I might be using it out of a kayak time to time and I really don't want a 8 foot rod for my situation. I just saw the 7'6 model of the mojo as a self proclaimed "flipping rod" when it seems a little light to me. The 7'4 rod is stated to be for frogs but looking at reviews on tw most guys said they used the 7'4 for flipping. That's why I was curious about the two different models. I might still try the powell but the mojo has 4 more years for the warranty than the endurances 1 year. I don't know, but maybe you could help me with my situation above. Thx again and have a nice night P.s. Which would you personally prefer? (as you didn't say above). I know only I can make the decision which is better for myself but based from the St. Croix's in the price range you have which would you take the endurance or the Croix(s)? Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I own both rods and I think the endurance has much better sensitivity, at least in my hands. 2 Quote

Accidental breakage is never covered under any warranties. Sometimes, some companies will hook you up with a freebie. Old Shimano and Quantum lifetime warranties were like that (in my experience). That's not really the case anymore as those companies got rid of those warranties. The 7'6 MH-MF Mojo would work just fine in that cover. The 7'4 would be fine too. I actually prefer the 7'4 H and think it's more versatile. As for brand preference...I'm definitely more of a Croix guy since I'm from the north. I don't really care for the Mojos though (aesthetic thing, not quality/function). The SCIII graphite blanks are plenty strong and sensitive. I can't really make a comparison to the Powell Endurance line though. I own/owned 4 Powell Maxs but they've all been crankin' rods so I can't comment on sensitivity, power, etc. I will say, I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy an Endurance. 2 Quote
Joshua van Wyk Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I'd buy an Endurance based off aesthetics alone! 1 Quote

I just got in two Duckett rods I ordered a while ago and they are my first Duckett's. The Terex is the lightest rod I've ever held for $130. I would get the micro magic instead of these two but they don't have the best reviews. I'm actually thinking of trying the endurance now. If I have to get my flipping rod at retail $, I think Ill get a endurance. But if warranties only cover defects and rods with defects usually break in less than six months, why would the mojo have a 5 year warranty? What model of the endurance should I get for my situation above? I was thinking the 7'6 but the handles seem too short. Also, is the Duckett micro magic any good? And finally, what reel should I get? I really only got serious into bass fishing two years ago and have been using different brands and mismatched stuff (as you can tell). Just throw anything at me. Price range is less than $160. P.s. I will probably be using 25-30lb braid so Idk about the tatulas. From what I've read, the t-wing doesn't work well with light braid or leaders. RichF Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I have to agree with @Joshua van Wyk. Not only is 25 to 30lb braid a little light for flipping, it won't handle that well on a baitcaster. I don't use anything under 40lb on a baitcaster. Tatula SVs are fantastic reels and can be had for under $160 on ebay. I've recently seen the new Tat 100 on there for $120. Can't go wrong with a Curado K as well. I am a little biased though as I'm currently only running one non-Shimano/Daiwa reel. I've never used any Duckett products and probably never will, so I can't help you there. It seems like you're liking the Mojo, so honestly, I'd say go for it. Either one will serve you well. If you wanna save a little $$, buy a TackleWarehouse gift card (10% off right now) then purchase the rod from them with it. It's not much but $14 bucks is $14 bucks! 1 Quote

Yeah, idk honestly I think I've changed my mind a lot on this the past few days. The mojos are nice and I like them, but these Duckett rods are super light. It seems everyone on this post would prefer the endurance, so I think that is what I will try. Idk, I guess I just never saw the necessity for braid under 35lb because I don't live in the south where there is super thick stuff. I guess Ill be trying some 40lb braid now that I think I should. Thank you guys once again and I think this will be last post on this topic unless others respond. P.S. But you dodged my question, is there a noticeable problem with line stacking or leader troubles with the t-wing? (as there are several reviews online stating this problem) Quote

(as there are several reviews online stating this problem) If your leader is so long that it goes past the line guide it's to long, no need for a leader over a few foot unless fushing super deep. So no it shouldn't be an issue. If you di have a knot going through the line guide it can get caught up occasionally. Quote

(as there are several reviews online stating this problem) Never had issues with the Twing. I know the 1st gen of tatulas had an issue but that was fixed by Daiwa a long time ago. Couldnt tell you about leaders because I dont use them with my baitcasting outfits. I especially wouldnt use them for flipping. It's 100% not necessary. The line recommendation isnt a strength thing, it's a handling thing. Light braid just doesnt work well on casters. 11 hours ago, fvogel67 said: St Croixs Gold plan and Gold plan plus cover accidents,You pay a fee but your covered Yes, that's true. I have always used a leader unless there's less than 5 in of visibility. Even if 75% of the time they hit it on the fall and don't look at it, but when you have to hop or drag I feel it definitely helps. To everyone else, I think the final verdict (if I pay full price) is a Powell endurance. Unless there's a deal between now and probably January, Ill probably get the endurance. It seems most prefer it. I like the Mojo and think its nice but from what people are saying the endurance seems lighter and overall great. I still might get the Mojo. Idk. I might end up getting a lews pro G since there on sale on a super secret website. (Whatever I get, Ill let everyone know how I like it and its durability.) One final question (probably not) Which model of the endurance should I get? I will be fishing laydowns, docks, moderate grass, light reeds, and some rock. But, I want a rod under 7'8. If you can help, thank you. Thank you all and have a nice whatever Quote
Super User burrows Posted December 9, 2018 Super User Posted December 9, 2018 powell rods are very sensitive rods a mh is going to feel as light as a sturdy medium with a good back bone, if your going to be flipping in some heavy cover and nasty stuff go with the mag medium heavy, if your fishing light vegetation flipping in regular type junk a medium heavy will be fine. St Croix or powell both good rods both have their own benefits whatever you choose you should be happy... 1 Quote
Nai Posted December 16, 2018 Author Posted December 16, 2018 Whelp, after more searching I found something new. A possibly better rod. A alx ikos, has good reviews, a specific model(s) to what I want, a 5 year warranty, and made in the U S of A. It has good reviews, and a better warranty. Just informing those here and to ask if any of you have input. It still not definite, but now its probably a duckett Micro magic pro with kigans or a alx ikos. Thank you all once again! Quote
