Dropshot bait selection

The dropshot is a great numbers bait, responsible for probably 25% of my bites this year with a 4lb Alabama spotted bass as my biggest.  But is it possible to target larger bass with a dropshot?  Do yall just cull all day or upsize the bait- and what about in 45 degree water?  Thanks.

if its a weedless dropshot i use a megabass dot crawler or yum sharpshooter, open hook i go with an xzone slammer

Catch a "lot" of big smallies on three inch baits....especially in colder water.

I gave up on the drop shot. Catching a fish on it just left me a tangled mess to deal with!  ?

I agree with you Oregon Native.  Nothing bigger than a finesse worm needed for smallmouth and spots.  The specific lake in mind for my question is largies only of the 10lb variety.  And thanks Scarborough817.

My best largemouth so far on a drop shot is close to 4lbs. I don’t think up sizing the bait to a 10 in worm would buy you larger bites. I think it’s boiled down to find the right size of fish your targeting and then presenting it to them the way they want it. I’ve watched other guys catch larger fish with 3-4in baits. Just got to get it in front of the right one.

I know for me i do see an increase in bass size when I move from a 3.5-4" bait to one thats in 6" range with a larger body profile for largemouth.

My second biggest bass was on a drop shot. I always use 6 inch roboworm fats. Catch largemouth and small mouth with them. I only fish them Texas rigged on my drop shot. No need to get anything shorter, as it starts to get beat toward the head of the worm I simplify cut until it’s too short.
