Super User Bankbeater Posted December 4, 2018 Super User Posted December 4, 2018 I don't use a trailer on a spinnerbait, and the only time I use a trailer hook is when I'm getting short strikes. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 4, 2018 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 4, 2018 I always use trailers, and never use trailer hooks (gasp!). But when you use these tips, you'll never need trailer hooks: 2 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted December 4, 2018 Super User Posted December 4, 2018 I never use a trailer with my spinnerbaits. Sometimes I use a spinnerbait that has some longer strands in the skirt that mimic a trailer. I ALWAYS use a trailer hook though. Quote

Between the blades flashing and vibrating, the skirts pulsing and adding attracting colors, what would one expect or think the net pick up to be then attaching a plastic trailer? 20% more effective attracting and catching fish? Same general question regarding chatterbaits. I do "get" using trailers in circumstances where you drop it to the bottom, maybe let it sit and work it up and down . . . more like a jig. I am thinking more about active retrievals where they are moving. Looking forward to hearing how everyone dials this in! My ulterior motive? I am just not a very good spinnerbait angler . . . looking for some more clarifications. Brad *From the spinner bait guru (Jimmy Houston) he states that a soft plastic trailer on a spinner bait provides a little more substance for a bass to clamp down on than just a plain silicon skirt . I have caught bass both ways on a spinner bait but lately I am liking the zoom split - tail trailers in white or chartreuse and either matching the skirt color with the split - tail trailer OR contrasting the split - tail trailer with the skirt . 1 Quote
