Lews Tournament MB vs Tatula 100

So I have narrowed down my results of baitcasters to buy to the Tatula 100 and the Tournament MB.

I have heard tons of positivity about both reels and I am kind of stuck. The Tournament MB fits perfectly in my hand and I like the way it reels. I haven't held the 100 but I have held the original tatula and it doesn't bother me but it doesn't fit as well as the MB. The 100 is smaller than the original tat so I don't think that I will have a problem palming it. 

I have heard that the breaks are better on the tatula but I don't know if it is worth the money or not.

Another thing to keep in mind is that I am new to baitcasting, I have only used one once or twice.

With the reel that you picked what line would you spool it up with. (I would get the 6.8 for the MB and the 6.3 or 7.1)

Either will be a great reel. You will adapt to the brakes on whichever one you pick. While I am huge fan of my Tatulas, if you think the MB fits in your hand perfectly compared to the Tatula then maybe go with that one.

 

In my opinion you would be splitting hairs between the two.

Quick question for you.

If you have any of the tatula's I have heard that the teeth on the break wheel bothers some people when they palm it. Do you have the same problem?

Never had that problem.

I own 3 MBs and one Tatula 100.  Short answer is if you are new to baitcasting, get the Tatula for the brakes.  Personally I prefer the MB for the size, but backlash much more often with it than the Tatula.

 

Oh yeah, get the 7 speed.

Get the Tournament MB and spool it with Berkley Trilene Big Game 12# mono while learning how to cast. This is a great reel for beginners and those experienced with baitcasters.

Sage advice. You can much easier adapt to the strengths and weaknesses of a certain reel when it just FITS..... I find I often compensate for a reel/rod because of how well it fits my hands, movements, and actions.

I think you'd be happier with the Tatula. You can get it for sub $100 on Ebay with one of their coupon codes.

This isn't a problem on the Tatula 100. The brake dial is more recessed.

Used my brand new Tournament MB 7 speed for the first time today. It was a fantastic first impression! Caught 4 decent sized fish and it held up perfectly and allowed me to get them in easily and quickly with the 7 speed. I had braid spooled on it with a mono backing. I have also used the Tatula 100 and personally prefer the MB. The MB is much more comfortable in the hand and casts smoother in my opinion. The only concern I have for you is that if you are new to baitcasting the MB might not be a perfect fit. My first baitcaster was an Abu Garcia blackmax. The MB takes some time to set up properly IMO. I am still recommending the MB for you, but just don't be surprised if you backlash or have problems at first with it. I would look at some informational videos on how to set it up to best fit your needs. Also since you are new to casting I would recommend mono line. Hope this helps!
