Harold Scoggins Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 While putting a second Black Friday order together to replenish some lost tungsten, it dawned on me just how hard it is for folks who may be on a budget to build up a collection of these weights. I do not want to start a tungsten vs lead debate, but rather address the issues some may have when trying to acquire tungsten when they have to watch the coin they drop on these weights. I remember when tungsten weights first hit the market, I bought every size and color available. I always replenished those that may have been lost about every couple of years and now I sit on a good reserve of tungsten, most of which will be passed down to my son one day. When I looked over the terminal box I carry to the lakes to get an idea of what I needed to reorder, It dawned on me that I don't lose that many weights and that I usually only use only 2-3 different sizes of weights. As a result, I have a lot of NOS (New Old Stock) weights still in their original packages to pass on one day. What is my point? You can get by without having every size weight. If you look at the sizes of worm weights in my preferred brand below, you'll notice that from 1/16 to 3/8 there is only a 1/16 oz difference between weights. I've got a lot of 1/8 oz weights that I've never used, I'm either using 1/16 or 3/16 oz weights when going light. Do you need both 3/8 and 1/2 oz weights or can you get by with one or the other? If you have to watch your budget, pay attention to the size difference between weights, you may discover that you don't really need all those weights. (I didn't really need all those weights you see in my order, just want to leave a smile on my son's face when I'm gone.) Darn that free shipping! 1 Quote
Calibassassin Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Good point, and as someone who fishes on a reasonable budget I can appreciate the reasoning. I also know that a lot of my fishing purchases will one day go to my 3 kids as well. That just adds to the enjoyment of it for me ?. Thanks for the tip. Quote

SWVABass Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 With the trade tariffs and such going on is the price of these weights increasing specifically with om fishing? Just wondering trying to hold out till the new year before I look to order. Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted November 28, 2018 Posted November 28, 2018 I'm sure it might affect it some, but I wouldn't think it would be terrible Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted November 29, 2018 Super User Posted November 29, 2018 Academy's brand of tungsten is very affordable. Quote
Brock_v Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 try Beast coast tungsten cheapest I've found and shipping is fast Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted December 1, 2018 Super User Posted December 1, 2018 I use mostly 1/8 oz weights for Dropshotting and I like to stay under $5 for them. I find Woo Tungsten to have great prices. $4.29 for a 4 pack. Quote
Falkus Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 1/8 on omfishingstinkers is like .50 cents each - 4 for two bucks. I would rather to double that up and call it a day 1 Quote
LxVE Bassin Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Swagger Tackle had weights cheaper than omfishsinkers during Tacklewarehouse’s Black Friday sale. I racked up and got them with 2 day shipping. Quote
