Hey people

I have been using a small safety pin spinner for smallmouth for years with either a worm piece or small soft jerk bait on a 1/16 or 1/8oz jighead for years with great luck. My own Beetle Spin spinnerbait style. I like stickbait pieces and the smallest fluke with a size one blade. I caught lots of 2-4lb SMB and a bunch of LMB, Pike and panfish too. Anyone else like this style for Smallmouth?

I have been using those since i was a kid so 30+ years.  I don't throw them much anymore but my son does and catches fish for sure.

Me too, but for some reason I stopped years ago. I'm glad I found it again.

Would have a very similar action to a Beetle Spin, but you get to select your own colors.

Great. I like it. I use to fish the heck out of the beetle spins, Mr. T spins, and stuff like that. Great way to put ripped senkos to good use. I fish a larger type spinner bait for river smallies. But I know what you mean on some days you have to scale back size. Have fun with it.

Funny how when you look back at what you caught MANY bass on  30 or so years ago, and you now don't use any of it...???

That is so true.

this year i have gone back to my fishing roots, on some baits.

All of the old baits still catch fish.

Another old lure that still catches a ton of fish is the rigged worm with the white or orange spot, usually in purple.  Ike-con, Mann's, if I remember correctly.

Different plastic but same small spinner. I've found that when they won't bite big spinners, they love the little ones.

How do you make these?

I bought a bunch of size one blade safety pin spinners and I add a regular ball-head jig in 1/16oz or 1/8oz sizes.

Whatever plastic bait you want. Or you can go out and buy some Beetlespins and call it a day.

Thank you for posting this. I have done well using Ned rigs and spinnerbaits in flooded river conditions.

Close.  I typically use a 1/4 oz jig head and a curly tail grub, but this setup has been my favorite lure pretty much my whole fishing life.  I always have one tied on, and have to force myself to use something else.

i have done well with the yellow curly tail in the past. now i just go the other way with a #4 or #5 mepps.  gold or silver blade and yellow or white hair are my favorites because i see them better, but i think its all about the vibration of the larger blade

I think the magic of the small size one blade is that it's small and subtle. Same with the stick bait, subtle.

i like to get their attention- had some amazing fishing with smallies and largemouth  in the last few years. i beleve the larger blades  vibration  attracks them because of their lateral line which is sensetive to vibration.

Fell in love with this bait as a kid. I always have used a curly tail grub or crappie tube however. I definitely like the stick bait idea though
