Spinning reel for braided line

Hi members, happy black friday!

 

I am looking to upgrade my spinning reel to match 6.6 MH fast rod, with braided line (20lbs). I am planning to use it to cover heavier lure or current when smally fishing in river. I currently have a cheap american hero lews reel, which seems to be ok, but doesnt feel smooth..

 

I was looking at Diawa lineup, mostly LT models as they seem lightweight, but noticed they are mostly of composite material..

 

Now, I read somewhere you should use aluminium frame reel rather than composite for heavier braided line. It seems to make sense but not sure how true it is..

 

How important, or noticeable of a difference is there between composite and metal frame for spinning reel in handling braided or heavier line? 

 

Appreciate any input, and will take any recommendation of reels around 100 dollar!

You can use 20 braid on all the Daiwa LTs without any problems the only problem might be the rod being a medium heavy spinning rod may or may not depending on the specific rod can be tip heavy for those light weight reels I would probably consider a 2000 size Daiwa BG for a medium heavy rod for a perfect match and balance.

Thank you for the input! I am glad I asked, I wasnt aware of rod/reel balance until I read your post...I assumed lighter would be always the better but guess not...

 

May I ask the reasoning behind choosing daiwa bg 2000? Is there rule of thumb in narrowing down reel choices for a certain rod?

The Shimano nasci is $99. I have the 2500 series on a 6’6” and really like it. It’s a great real for the money.

Any $100 spinning reel will handle braid. I use 2 $40 Pflueger Trions with it.

The 2000 BG has a decent amount of weight to it but not overbearing actually it’s still fairly light it’s also a solid smooth reel to pair with a medium heavy. 

When I pair up a combo I always make sure I’m pairing the right reel and rod with it. The lighter the better isn’t always the case when your reel is so light that you’re rod becomes tip heavy.

You might want to consider the 2500 BG because it’s drag is probably better suited for a medium heavy...  I did not consider the drag in my original reply to your post the 2000 only packs about 5 pounds of drag and the 2500 pushes 13 and is only 9 ounces which is pretty standard for a spinning reel. sorry about that.

Thank you! I did end up getting 2500! Will enjoy the new reel!
