I have upgraded my spinning reels enough that my Shakespeare 10-15 year old excursions x 2 and Cattera are going into storage maybe to never be used again.

Usually a 20 buck reel wouldn’t get much love but these reels have hundreds of fish on each of them and never had a failure between them, and they would be ready for more if I hadn’t upgraded last year. Would be curious if the excursions of today are as good, or if I just got lucky with the 2 I bought:).

No need to put it away - get one of those reel display and put on your desk :)

Google this word: you should find something.

At first I was like no way, these are some ugly reels lol, but the fish they caught were better than solid over the years. Trying not to be a hoarder, but just can’t pitch stuff that still works well.

Awesome idea

Now I have graduated to a couple of Presidents which I love and a couple of Daiwa Regals, and I do have spare bail springs I carry having busted them on an older Regal and on the new one too.

I think what makes them special to me is I got them when we were newly married and struggling, and shelling out roughly 30 for the Cattera would be like me looking at a 300 dollar reel now. I got lucky in that some bargain gear allowed me to fish and fish well for a lot of years.

I too have a reel that's going up on the shelf.  A Stella FA that was a gift many years ago and has caught litterly a bazillion fish and been everywhere.  They don't make parts anymore and it just doesn't feel the same.  Have had it into a shop twice in the last six months and ...oh well...Guess I will just say thank you "Ol Friend".

That’s a pretty generous gift!

To make a long story short back in the ol days I knew some people who worked at Shimano that were really cool and I had the privilege of taking them fishing.  I worked in the industry and fished a lot.....a lot.  So was in the right place at the right time and they were very fond memories.

Kind of why it will be hard to give up reel and also why it will go on a shelf.

I remember fishing a Western Divisional for Oregon and we were down at Lake Pleasant many years ago.  I drew this young lad and his tackle was very marginal (nice kid).  I believe I gave him at the time a nice outfit to use for the application we were doing.  Anyway we both had good limits at the end of the day and I said HERE....he goes what!!!!  I had gave him the Lami and an one of those awesome green Shimano's (Curado's) that he was using of mine.  I got a warm fuzzy feeling there!!!!!

Hope he's still chasing those green fish.
