Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 20, 2018 Global Moderator Posted November 20, 2018 Is it a blue or channel? Initial reaction was a blue but the more I look at it the more I think giant channel. The best indicator got covered up. Quote
clh121787 Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 I’m not sure a few people I’ve talked to say channel. The lake has no record of blues and the channel cat record is like 12 pounds. Have no idea of weight or length. But pretty sure it’s 50 pound range Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 21, 2018 Super User Posted November 21, 2018 Well, congrats are in order! 1 Quote

But pretty sure it’s 50 pound range If you have any pictures without the anal fin covered it would be easy to tell. Blues have a straight fin, channels are rounded. If it was a channel, it could have beaten the state record as well since it's listed at 36.5lbs. This was a 40lb blue for size reference. This is a better view of what I mean by the straight fin. and the much more rounded fin of a channel cat. 2 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted November 22, 2018 Super User Posted November 22, 2018 If it was a 50lb channel cat you are in world record territory too. Nice fish either way Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 23, 2018 Super User Posted November 23, 2018 Nice cat! I bet landing that was a fight. Quote

I hooked another cat in the exact same place on the lake 5 days later. On a dropshot ml rod 10 pound lineand fought it for 56 minutes trolled it about a half mile to the bank and it came off at the boat. Same friend was with me for both fish we think the one that got away was even bigger. Huge cats are taking over one of my favorite Bass honey holes. Go figure 2 Quote
