One of my favorite articles here on BR is "Normark's Risto Rap," by the late Larry Gonczy.

https://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/Risto.html

Although being discontinued, this bait will always be one of my favorites. I've heard it called the Shad Rap on steroids and it has always performed for me. It had a short run as Rapala soon introduced the DT cranks and the Risto Raps were discontinued. I made a run on these lures when BP put them out for $1 and I made sure I would always have access to this crank. There's nothing better than pulling a 20 year-old bait out of the box and having someone ask you where you can get the lure as you are pulling in a nice bass. I still see them on Ebay and if you are a fan of the Shad Rap, you'll like this lure.

Next thing you know, everyone will be buying up all the old Risto Raps and Wiggle Warts.

I won't comment on my inventory, for fear that my wife may someday see this post.

I have about a dozen of them but have never used them.

They are good lures don’t get me wrong. They do have a nice profile. I love the Shad Raps and they are one of my favorite crankbaits. They (RR’s) don’t have anything on a Shad Rap. Same color patterns exist with Shad Raps. Probably more. Might say Ireland on Finland on the lip but Bass can’t read. I don’t think. If you can buy one or some at regular price or out of a clearence bin I’d say go for it. But to pay someone three or four time what they are worth for a used lure or new one so claimed on eBay I think is foolish.

The Shad Rap has had a much longer run than the Risto Raps so it's natural they would be more popular. I like both, and there are times when a Risto Rap will outshine the SR. As far as the color patterns go, there are some patterns that are not shared between the two. (especially special colors) I've collected all models of Rapala lures since the early 1960s and continue to do so. (Pre VMC only.) The Fire Shad (FSD) is one the special colors that has always been good when the crank bite is on.

Are the #7 similar in size to the 7 shadraps?

Similar in length, 2 3/4", the Risto Rap  7 weighs 9/16 oz and runs 7-9 feet. Shad Rap 7 weighs 5/16 oz and runs 5 - 11 feet. The Risto Rap has a thicker body.
