waymont Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I have 3 Dobyns Fury casting rods which I love. They are labeled as fast action but I feel like they are more like a moderate/fast action. I’m checking out the new Daiwa Tatula Rods with the cork grips. Anyone know if Daiwas idea of a fast is faster than Dobyns? I’m looking for a true fast MH rod 1/4-1oz 10-20lb line rating. Quote
Super User burrows Posted November 13, 2018 Super User Posted November 13, 2018 Check out the max medium heavy Powell endurance. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 I am a big Daiwa fan, use their Tatula Elites, their fast seems more mod/fast or regular as they call it and Dobyns is definitely a fast action. Don't get my wrong, I love the Tatula Elites it's just their made differently and Dobyns their name speaks for themselves. Quote
LionHeart Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Have owned two original Tatula rods. The Heavy - fast was exactly that. The medium heavy "regular' which is supposed to be slightly slower than fast, was just that as well, but basically a fast action. Both were faster than Dobyns fast. Great rods for sure though. Still own and love the medium heavy. 1 Quote

I can't provide any judgement on your actually question, but I'm wondering if you have held the new Tat rods in hand yet? I was looking at them as well, but when I got my hands on them I didn't like them. As you can see in pictures on line, the reel seat seems to be shiny and plastic and it is exactly that; this makes it extremely slippery and feels really cheap IMO. If you don't think this will effect you, go ahead and grab one; but for me the reel seat was extremely slippery, which I didn't think that would be good on the water, and the reel seat felt cheap. Just a warning. Tight Lines! Harrison Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 13, 2018 Super User Posted November 13, 2018 I have a Tatula, 6'10" MH/F and my son has a Dobyns Sierra 704C (H/F, basically a stout MH by other manufacturer's ratings). The action on both of the tips is nearly identical however the tip on the Sierra is a little bit more stout, so it's faster when you get to lures closer to 1oz. With a 1/2oz lure, they're pretty close and by my standards, both rods are in fact a true fast. I've been impressed with both rods so far, so no matter which way you go you can't go wrong. My advice would be if you largely cast lures 3/4oz and under, go with the Tatula but if you may regularly exceed 1oz, you would like the Sierra 704C better. I do hear that the 7'3 Dobyns rods are closer to moderate fast than fast, but I can't say this from experience just what other users on the forums have told me. I also hear the Furys may not be quite as fast as the Sierras, but again that is not from personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted November 14, 2018 Super User Posted November 14, 2018 Both my 743 spinning and casting rods are moderate fast. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 14, 2018 Super User Posted November 14, 2018 A Tatula "MHR" is like a 734.5 in a Dobyns 1 Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 I have the original tatula 72MHR I could give you a great deal on. I just don't care for the reel seat which is a deal breaker for me. PM me if you are interested. Quote
