Big Rick Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 So, I got my order in from Siebert Outdoors. Very pleased indeed. Highest quality components. I'm yet to fish any of it yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to using this stuff. That said, when I opened my size 6 Force Beads they were all clinging together. I took one out and it immediately latched on to the tungsten weight I had purchased from them. So, I tried other metal items. Sure enough, all the beads are magnetized. Which kinda defeats the purpose as I was intending to use them as a noisemaking clacker between my weight and hook. Can anyone give me some input here? I even dropped them several times to demagnetize them to no avail. I'm stumped as to the point of magnetism. It's not in the description on the website either. As you can see in the pic, I held them up with my needle nose and they all clung together. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 11, 2018 Super User Posted November 11, 2018 They clack against weights just fine. They pick up little pieces (slivers) of metal off the lake bottom as well. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 11, 2018 Super User Posted November 11, 2018 Have you called mike? Quote

And if so, what the advantages were. 12 minutes ago, webertime said: They clack against weights just fine. They pick up little pieces (slivers) of metal off the lake bottom as well. These won't. The magnetism is too strong. Now, I could use lead weights, but that defeats the whole idea. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 11, 2018 Super User Posted November 11, 2018 Mike should be able to answer your question and/or resolve the issue. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 11, 2018 Super User Posted November 11, 2018 I've used Vike Tungsten force beads, and they behaved the same way. Once rigged they are fine. Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 I've purchased tungsten beads that acted the same way. My guess is that they sometimes are using a magnetized wire or tool to hold the beads while powder coating, which in turn magnetizes the beads. They will eventually lose this magnetization over time depending on how long they were exposed. There are methods for demagnetizing metals, and if you have a donut shaped magnet you can bend out a paper clip, run the beads over the wire and then pass the beads through the hole of the magnet a few times without touching the magnet. Do not pass the beads on the outside of the magnet as this will magnetize them. (Picture shows a screw driver being demagnetized.) 1 Quote
Janderson45 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Mine do the same thing, I thought it was intentional to be honest. Not sure how much “noise” they make, I would imagine it’s a little bit of added noise if you compared it to a rig with no bead, but probably not a lot. The reason that I use them is more to protect the terminal knot from constantly getting crashed into by a heavy tungsten weight. These serve that purpose and will not crack or break from the hard and heavy tungsten weight like glass beads will. If you’re really looking to make some noise with the rig underwater I’d look into rattles. 1 Quote
Mjmj Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 I use 2 beads on my Carolina rig a 6 and a 8. My sixes stick together and my eights Stick together, but none of them stick together on the Carolina rig. I think I read somewhere that magnetism is a good thing, as fish are drawn to it. Sounds weird, I'm not so sure Quote
dgkasper58 Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 This is my first time hearing about "force beads". Sounds like a good idea and after some "googling" found out they are pretty loud. I use glass beads and do not really go heavy on the tungsten/Brass to break the bead but was wondering do they make this bead with facets like the glass bead? TIA Quote

TIA This is my first experience with force beads. Siebert beads are powder coated and smooth. I plan to use them next week on a several day excursion, weather permitting. So, I hope to have a better idea of how well they work. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 13, 2018 Super User Posted November 13, 2018 The beads should be degaussed prior to shipping, contact Mike and let him know his tungsten beads are magnetic. Tom Quote
