Top Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 When I left 10 months ago... I promised myself when I got out of the desert I was going to buy myself a truck and a jon boat. Well with the support of my family... I got this for a tow vehicle... its a 2005 ThunderRoad Edition Ram 1500 and I just made a deal to buy this from slowrollin... I believe he visits here from time to time... he is a Drill Sergeant so I know he has my back... its 14 ft now here is the kicker... I have yet to sit in either... so like I said earlier... 55 DAYS!!!! but seriously I do need advice.. what size drift sock do I need and what is a good deep cycle battery charger? thanks for the Look AL Quote

bassdocktor Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Looks like you'll be busy when you get back. That has to be hard looking at something like that and not even being able to sit in it yet. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Man, I'd love to convert that boat to white w/ grey carpeting. Are you far from me when you get home Al? Quote
ZEN BASSIN Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Nice toys to look forward to when you get home. By the way thanks for your service as well as the other service members. This comes from a former Jar head. Quote
Hot Rod Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Very cool. You are going to love that Ram. I have an '04 Ram 1500 Quad cab SLT. Awesome for towing and for toting the family and a whole lotta gear around too. God speed! Quote
Top Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Quote Man, I'd love to convert that boat to white w/ grey carpeting. Are you far from me when you get home Al? Russ, that is EXACTLY what I thought... with gray vinyl seats, AL Quote
The Rooster Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 You wanting an onboard charger or just something you can plug in that's portable?? Make sure it's a fully automatic charger. That's about all I can tell you except GOOD LUCK FISHING!! Looks like it's gonna be fun. Love the truck and yes the boat needs to be white with grey carpet. Also thank you so much for your services and God speed you coming home. Quote
Top Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 the charger has to be portable. I have a "fishing" closet that I have to put everything in because the boat is going to be along side the house with a cover when its not being used.. don't want everything being stolen. AL Quote
The Rooster Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 It's been awhile but I bought one and paid about $30 for it on sale, regular price $40, and it charges deep cycle batteries as well as starting batteries. Gel cell, wet cell, and dry cell also. It's a fully automatic charger, 12 amp output, and has lasted me for 12 years and still looks like new cause I keep it inside also. Only use it between fishing trips to charge the batts up. so what I'm saying is you should be able to score one for about that much money that will do you fine. 10 - 12 amps will charge up a battery fairly quickly, around 2 hours to top mine off after a trip, and maybe 6 hours or overnight if the battery is COMPLETELY dead. 6 amp or smaller and it's gonna take a long time to charge them up. I don't know if you can get a portable one that's a dual bank or not. That would charge two batteries at the same time so you wouldn't have to switch it out after the first one charged up. If you get an onboard charger it installs as part of the boat's equipment, bolt on I mean, and they make those in all kinds of bank sizes (1, 2, 3, up). Just plug it in when you get home and it's charged your batteries up when you come back the next morning to go fishing again. If you're like me you go back to back several days in a row. I do every weekend so I really could benefit from one of these. Just haven't had the money to lay down on one yet. I've spent it on everything else for my boat instead. Quote
