Buffdaddy54 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I'm pretty sure I'm in need of some sort of intervention. In the past year I have purchased and sold 8 different spinning reels. This past month I've purchased 3 more. Mind you,I'm not making any money on this, as a matter of fact I've lost a few bucks. I can't seem to stop myself. My wife thinks I'm crazy! Her most recent comment to me was" for someone who never goes fishing you sure do buy a lot of reels. I'm going to have to cut up your credit cards!" Is this due to the bite from the bait monkey ? and if so is there a cure? Just last night I purchased a Daiwa RG AB and a Legalis LT. OMG! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? Quote

Super User Darren. Posted November 3, 2018 Super User Posted November 3, 2018 Wish I could help. Not many cures other than coming to your senses in one way or another. Wives can certainly help with that. 1 2 Quote
Chris186 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Well, you could start buying casting reels instead. That should cure your spinning real purchase problem.? 1 3 Quote
TBAG Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 My problem is rods. I find these great deals on used rods and can't stop myself. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Take your wife’s advise unless money is no object. If that’s the case you’re fine. Quote

I find I'm more accurate and often get longer casts too. My wife thinks I'm crazy as well.... 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 I can't help you brother. I've bought so many rods, reels and so much tackle this year! I'd be a hypocrite if I tried to say anything. 2 Quote
fvogel67 Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 The wife asked me once,”You think you have enough fishing stuff”. I waited a few days and then went into her walk-in closet and ask her”Think you have enough shoes?” Point made . Quote

Just kidding, but so long as you are in good shape financially I don't really see an issue. You said yourself you've sold some, better than hoarding them. Quote
J.Vincent Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 I must add to this post and say, your not alone ! I reached a point this year where I bought so many rods, reels and lures; I began to feel like I was field testing more than fishing ; but oddly enough, I actually discovered how much I enjoy trying out and testing new gear. It gives me an opportunity to be analytical with the tools of the trade and therefore through trial and testing, I feel more informed ! So ultimately I think there is no reason for intervention unless we are spending money we can't afford to spend ! 1 Quote
Matt_3479 Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Hahaha it happens! I have a gun and hunting addiction. Way too many and way to much money. Finally the girl told me I had to pick a different hobby. So I set the guns aside as it wasn’t hunting season and picked up a fishing rod. And this season I got 2 spinning set ups, e6x and avid x with a nasci, and ci4 +. Then 7 casting combos, imx pro with a ***, imx pro with a chronarch mgl, 2 glx’s with chronarch mgl’s, *** paired with a curado k, kistler helium with a chronarch mgl, and a dobyns Sierra with a Daiwa’s Tatula SV. Like I said it happens lol. Coming up sooner then later either another glx or nrx and trying the metanium 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted November 4, 2018 Super User Posted November 4, 2018 As long as it doesn't cause a REAL problem on the home front don't sweat it. Probably a phase that will slow down some. Quote

I own several K's but thinking of spending a bit more next time on a Chronarch. Quote

I try to buy used whenever I can so when I go to sell I don't loose a lot of money on it. 1 Quote

SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? NO!, this is a different affliction. The Monkey frowns upon selling stuff, and doesn't really relish trading or bartering either. What you have is a condition common in the American male sporting goods consumer, there is no cure, but in most it eventually runs it's course. What may relieve symptoms is to actually participate in the sport. 2 Quote

Its an awesome reel for the money but there is a reason I have 3 chronarchs and 1 K. Once I tried my first chronarch I’m hooked. Like I said next will be the metanium!! the chronarch are easier to palm, smoother, lighter, more comfortable, I get better distance. I have one on the frog rod, one on the jig rod, and one on the worm rod, and my K is on my flipping stick. Will probsbly get another chronarch for the crankbait stick eventually. And move the one chronarch over to my moving bait rod and pick up the metanium for the jig rod just to try it out for myself to see if there that much better then the chronarchs. Mainly just curious how much better they are when the chronarchs are awesome!!! 2 Quote

Backroad Angler Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Don't switch to baitcasting reels because then you'll be spending 3x the amount on them than spinning reels lol Quote
ratherbfishin1 Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 You just have to get so good you can find deals and sell stuff for more than you bought it for... that’s what happens when you live on Craigslist? 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 4, 2018 Super User Posted November 4, 2018 No help from here. Since about this time last year I have bought at least 7 rods and I think around 4 baitcast reels. (Hard to keep track anymore.) I am trying not to buy reels as I still have several more than the number of rods. Consider yourself fortunate. I don't sell any of my gear. The reels were all used, but still not cheap. Two Exsence DCs, a Steez and upgraded Purple Alphas. I almost bought a 7' MHF Okuma Helios last week, but managed to talk myself out of it. Whew. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted November 5, 2018 Super User Posted November 5, 2018 First the peddlers outside the tackle stores (A-Jay , Bluebasser86) get you hooked with a "Gateway" reel (such as a spinning reel) - first you buy one , then two then four all the while looking for the "high" you felt when you bought that first spinning reel ... Then you find the spinning reel high has lost it's luster so you move up to baitcasting outfits where you definitely now are out of control ! ... It doesn't stop until you have gone totally hard core and move up to mainlining the heavy flipping and punching baitcasting rigs - Oh , the horror of it all ... It's too late for me (I don't want to be saved) but there is still time for you to turn back ! 1 Quote
