Super User the reel ess Posted November 3, 2018 Super User Posted November 3, 2018 My buddy bought a package deal a while back with 2 Lure 13.5's, trailer, Lowrance Hook 7 depth finder/GPS and solar charger. I'm going to look this afternoon and if I like it I'm coming home with it. I've only heard good things about this kayak. I've been using the Pescador 12 for about 6 years. It has served me well, but it's time to step up. I'm 48 and my legs go to sleep after a couple hours in the Pescador. I need one that sits up a bit and I can stay dry in. Quote

I'm interested too. But I fish a few places that are just too shallow and/or weedy for it to be of much use. Quote

We've got a guy down here on the Hobie team, he told me if he had to switch to a paddle yak it would be a Native Slayer or a Feel Free Lure. If you like it, I would for sure put the pedals in it. I can cover a lot of water in the Hobie Pro Angler. 6mph isn't hard to attain, and I've topped out at 7. It cruises at about 4 and I imagine the Lure could come pretty close. I've been wanting to buy a Hobie Compass to use for punching through the surf and to double as a paddle craft in my local rivers. 1 Quote
LadiMopar Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I've been In my Feelfree Lure 10 for two seasons now and am planning an upgrade to the new Feelfree Dorado 125. There's nothing wrong with the Lure 10 if you're able to paddle, I have loved my time in the 10, but physical limitations are pushing me to one with a pedal/motor drive. Got a trailer this season which made getting out so much easier, and I could also leave the "kayak sherpa" (aka hubby) at home! ? The new Dorado comes with all kinds of new stuff built in like a battery box, full navigation lights, and their amazing seat has a taller backrest. Too much stuff to list, and I don't want it sound like an ad for this company but imho it's pretty hard to go wrong with any of Feelfree 's yaks. Congrats @the reel ess on your new ride! As far as new pedal yak I've narrowed it down to either the new Topwater PDL from Old Town or Native Slayer Propel. I fish shallow stuff too but I'm tired of paddling and trying to hold position. I don't get to spend a lot of time on the water so every minute I have to make count. With a pedal drive yak I have more time to fish and less time paddling. 1 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 7, 2018 Super User Posted November 7, 2018 Congratulations on your new Lure. I bought my first Lure 11.5 in 2014 and an Overdrive 11.5 this past April. I like being able to remove the Overdrive and install the center console when fishing shallow, weedy ponds. There's not much to dislike. They're easy to rig, are well built, and offer good storage. My only gripe is that the wheel's axle wears out after a couple seasons and needs to be replaced. Sand & dirt gets in there, and combined with kayak's weight on it while transporting, just wears out. What's best about the Lure's is FeelFree's customer service. The few issues I've had with both my kayaks were taken care of very quickly. They return emails and phone calls in a timely manner. The Mirage Drive by Hobie is faster than propeller drive systems, but both are viable for kayak fishing and sometimes I wish I could switch between forward and reverse as effortlessly as you guys do. I do hate to hear it's at that much of a speed disadvantage. Quote
