Have any of you watched the latest Bass Talk Live yet?  There was a very interesting idea about a Professional Team Fishing League.  What are your thoughts?

That bombastic guy on the right has quite an irritating way of speaking! Not the worst idea ever, but how many times do you need to say the same thing?

Look at the Tournament forum, 18 page thread discussing this topic.

You didn’t look at the video. This is not an MLF discussion. This guy is proposing an entirely new tournament fishing league with a team concept.

@OCdockskipper proposed that concept first (on this site) over a month ago. BTL guys just read it here and stole the idea. Read the original post first, then watch the BTL plan on BTLive, and see if you don't agree B)

I watched the show.  I found the idea odd and I personally can't see any merit in it.

1) Football is a team sport,  one guy throws the football and another guy catches it.  Fishing is an individual sport.  Sure you can combine individual efforts into a team effort and that can make for an interesting twist but it's still an individual sport, there will always be individual stars, and I think it will always be viewed and enjoyed as an individual sport.

2) The idea he expressed at the beginning about getting sports fans that don't fish interested in professional fishing is a pipe dream.  Fishing is not a spectator sport.  Only people that love to fish enjoy watching the best fishermen compete in a tournament.  I don't think this will ever change.

3) For me as a fan,  I think the sport is stuck somewhere between the old cable tv world and the new internet world.  In the old days I could watch a BASS tournament on ESPN and most of the time I did not know the outcome in advance.  I got all the action compressed into an hour show with the excitement of not knowing who would win.  Now I usually know the outcome soon after the tournament.  I enjoy watching the tournaments live on the internet but it takes a big commitment in time to watch an entire tournament and I usually only do it when it's on a lake that interest me.  MLF solves this problem by holding tournaments with no spectators where the results are only revealed in a well produced TV show. BASS and FLW need to solve this problem in their own way.

That's awesome although the guy in the video has been working on this concept for a couple years now, at least that's what he said.  Regardless, it sounds cool to me.

I like that fact that someone is trying to find ways to get more fans.  I agree it would be extremely hard but it's not my time and money so I'm all for it.

As for it being an individual sport, there are plenty of sports like that.  Baseball is a team sport that relies a lot on individual performance.  Bowling, while not real popular, can be a team sport that strictly relies on individual performance.  Racing can be a team sport that relies on individual performance.  There are other sports as well.
