No picture but I settled for a doe on Black Friday. I didn't want to carry my bow tag into the late season in Iowa and have to deal with shooting it in the (what I hope will be) frigid weather. Upon checking cameras on Black Friday, our cameras went nuts from Nov. 12 - 18 and even had good action until the 21st. Several nice deer. Nov. 12 was the last morning we hunted until Nov. 23 and of course we were not in the right stands. Lol the season has been interesting this year, with none of the 4 of use filling our tags with a buck and Im the only one to till a tag so far. However, all of us filled our tag with a buck last year, so we are not complaining. That's just the nature of hunting. Im ready for the snow, cold, and the muzzy in hand!

There's nothing wrong with that.  I actually prefer eating does instead of bucks.  Some of the bucks I've harvested over the years were so pumped up with hormones from the rut that they stunk and were quite foul tasting.  The best eating deer out there is a corn fed doe.

I had a ton of pictures during the same time frame. I went to my stand last week filled with excitement on what was sure to be a busy time of watching deer even if I didn't see a shooter. Did not see a single deer the entire weekend. 304 pictures on one camera in a week and a half and no deer in 2 days, couldn't believe it.

 

My BIL bought a bird dog puppy this past year he's been working with training and asked if I'd go with him to a bird farm to get his dog some work. He'd bought some birds and just wanted another gun to try and get his monies worth. Thought I'd be rusty but we killed 7 quail and 3 chukars and I was able to account for 7 of them. His dog did well for still being a puppy basically.

Got a fat doe on public ground today. unfortunately to find deer on public ground, you have to get away from the roads.

Need to find some private ground. Hauling a deer a mile back to the truck is  a lot of

work for this old man.

Since i moved to Eastern Kansas 3 years ago, Finding private ground to hunt. has not been easy.

Congrats. I've been lazy and haven't gone much this year. No excuse when I hunt my backyard. 

 

It's funny because I thought I had a bunch of new friends when I bought a boat but it was nothing compared to when I bought land with deer on it.

ground is at a premium here.

I almost bought a 30 acre patch on the west side of Perry. It sold pretty cheap.

I am glad I passed on it. it butts up to public ground.

opening day I saw an orange brigade run right through it.

I do have around 20 acres in Wyandotte county I can bow hunt. There are some pretty impressive city dwelling bucks, but they are completely nocturnal.

Out of around 100 pics on my trail cam, none of them were during hunting hours.

I never thought I would enjoy hunting game farms like that until I did it. I have to say, it was fun! We don't have a dog or anything, but they provide a guide who does. And to me thats the best part. Those dogs are phenomenal. Hunting behind a good is awesome and sounds like you will be doing that in the near future.

Nice work! Kansas is a great state to whitetail hunt, but similar to Iowa, private ground makes it "easier". Just less pressure to deal with and of course the dragging deer out like you mentioned.

Private land it very difficult to find here in Michigan as well. I'm luck my parents have 52 acres. I don't know how public land is for you guys, but before my parents bought their land it was public land or don't hunt.

 

The first year I could rifle hunt by myself I got dropped off on state land, I go sit in my ground blind. About an hour after daybreak I hear shooting close by, I see orange off in the distance and deer running between me and the orange. I hear one more gun shot and hear a zing then hear the bullet hit a tree 10 feet away from me and about 8 feet up! I laid down on my stomach and waited the 2 hours for my ride to pick me up. That's the one and only time I'll ever gun hunt state land.

Pheasant hunting has bee fantastic the past month.  Most of the corn was harvested, we got some fresh snow, and everything froze good for easier walking.  These are not game farm birds; wild birds only.

Got my first deer yesterday right before sunset.  Anyways, needless to say I'm hooked!

My BIL trapped his first coyote out at our place yesterday. There was tracks everywhere in the snow along the treeline, so there's plenty more for him to get still. It's a muddy, swampy mess from all the melting snow right now behind our house and it was covered in mud, so he'll have some work to do cleaning it up.

Lil late to the subject but I settled on 2 small bucks this year since I had knee surgery last September and couldn't hunt way back in on public land like I like too do.

 

Our neibour has some ground he owns and gave us permission to a lil 5 acre slot across the road from his main 120 acres. Throw up a pop up blind and set a camrea and some corn.

 

Killed both of them with 1 shot from my 16 inch 6.5 grendel in the pics. Both bang flops.

 

First was shot with 100 grain NBT and the second was shot with federal 120 grain fusion ammo.

 

Pic with the boot is the second deer. Both were nice and tender.

Pheasant hunting in central Minnesota is pretty good.  By this time last year, there was over a foot of snow on the ground and it was very tough walking.  It looks like late October out there right now.
