Shane Y Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 Got access to a couple of ponds today. Never fished one of them before. The other I've only fished once. The one I have fished I know that there are some giants in it....8+ pounders......I also know it has a soft muddy bottom. What's yalls go to for unfamiliar locations? Quote
EGbassing Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 My top five would probably be 1. Texas rig 2. Texas rig 3. Texas rig 4. Texas rig 5. Texas rig (in that order) 2 Quote

Texas rig (in that order) I like the Texas rig too. But, take some other things too. Spinnerbait, some shallow and deep diving cranks, lipless crankbait, and topwater. See what their biting Quote
bigbassin' Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 A 3/8 ounce jig is always my go to for a new location. I'll start by dragging it to see if there's any noticeable structure or cover. If that isn't producing I'll start swimming it along the shoreline. Quote
Eddie2934 Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 I would say take a straight tail worm zoom trick worm or sinko whech ever u prefer and worm waights 1/8 1/4 and 3/8 ounce take a few split shot sinkers for a split shot right as well square bill I try to keep a couple that dive 2-4 feet and a couple that dive 3-5 feet a couple swim jigs in 1/4 and 3/8 ounce and maybe a 1/8 ounce if u have a couple but the 1/8 ounce isn't a must but there good for really shallow water right along the edge of the pond a spinner bait or 2 top water is a must in ponds take a hollow body frog a water pooper maybe a supper spook Jr and a couple swim baits and some fat Albert grubs for jig trailers as fare as color goes keep it simple and for rods if it was me I'd take a casting rod with 30lbs or 40lbs braid with it u can use a 7 or 8 foot leader of ur chice tied to the braid and a spinning rid with 10 pound braid agine so u can use a leader making both rods really versatile I keep thses 2 rod set ups and a box with this stuff in it in the back of my truck all the time and it's never failed me yet I hope this helps and good luck Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 30, 2018 Global Moderator Posted October 30, 2018 Spinnerbait, topwater, and a T rig are pretty solid options for attacking a pond. 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted October 30, 2018 Super User Posted October 30, 2018 Shad rap baby minus rage menace robo worm and when theses fail go to a ned rig in this order. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 30, 2018 Super User Posted October 30, 2018 Senkos, zoom super fluke, and ribbon tailed worms. T-rigged, go as weightless as possible. Quote
Dens228 Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 New place I want to cover water at various depths. What I would choose would also depend on time of year and weed cover or lack of weed cover. But, in general, Cranks to cover between 1 and 12 feet so I'll count that as three lures Swim jig with a paddletail T-rig with a crawfish trailer Quote
Dom Hendricks Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Flukes and keitechs can kill it on a pond in the fall. Match the hatch. Fluke weightless t rig or nose hooked. Jig head or keel weighted hook on ktech. Quote
thedilettantedad Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Mine are a buzz bait, spinner, and senkos, wacky and texas rigged. These are my, "are there fish?" go tos, then I can come back with more tackle the next trip. Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Fluke for top(weightless) Suspending jerk bait for mid Dropshot for bottom(nose hooked fluke) My plan of attack for fall ponds. Those would be my top 3 approaches for your ponds Quote
