Worm rod

In the market for a new worm rod, currently using a Dobyns fury. Budget is $200.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What size hooks and weights are you looking to use? I use an original Diawa Tatula 7'2" MH/Relular for my worm rod and love it.  It is light and very sensitive with an almost perfect tip.

It is rated 1/4-1 oz but it throws 3/16 with baby brush hog or trick worm great, and perfectly with a 1/4 oz weight.  Even though it is rated to an ounce, I occasionally use it for 1/2 ounce jigs and feel that's about as high as it is suited for.

 

My only gripes are that the handle could stand to be a tad longer, and I ain't crazy about the reel seat.  I would prefer the trigger be a little further forward.

 

It is very well made, and if you can still find one, it's a tough rod to beat.

Why don't you look at a Dobyns Champion XP they are excellent rods & if you wait until Black Friday you will probley find them for few bucks over $ 200. Most likely less than $10.

Looking for 7' med/heavy 1/4 oz -1oz,been reading a lot of positive things about ALX Zolo rods

I actually use the 7'2" HF version but that's cause a lot of my worming is with big worms and heavy wire hooks. Lighter stuff I give the nod to my spinning rod.

I have Zillions, Tatulas, and a Megabass EMTF. I also have a Powell 714 MHEF that's the closest in sensitivity to the EMTF. I really like the Zillions and Tatulas, but for moving baits, not bottom contact. They just feel a bit more muted than the EMTF and Powell.

I got a few tatula reels matched up with fury's they are really nice rods very balanced and light, just not as sensitive as I would like for worming.

The tatula reelsbare great so I'm sure the rods are just as high quality for that price range.

Really want to check out the Zolo Deputy.

 

I have the Dragger and it is a great rod.  Honestly not sure it is as sensitive as my Tatula though.  May be comparing apples to oranges since the Tatula is a med-heavy and the ALX Dragger is a heavy.

 

Should a heavy rod be as sensitive as a med-heavy all other things being equal? I only ask because I used to have a heavy Tatula, and to me it didn't seem nearly as sensitive as the med-heavy.

The ALX Deputy Zolo is their flagship rod introduced about 5 years ago. I see Alex has a vedio on the site discussing this rod, check it out.
