Trout vs bass leader?

I’m wondering if anyone uses leaders such as Rio Flouroflex for finesse fishing. #10 Rio has a diameter of .254. P-line #10 is .30. Is the Rio too limp? Not abrasion resistant enough? Thanks.

Sunline Sniper and Seaguar AbrazX are the same diamter 10# is .010D and very popular bass fishing FC. I think trout leader in the 2 lb to 3 lbs sizes.

I've used BPS XPS 6# flouro as a nymphing leader so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way too.

A more expensive way to play the game, but works perfectly fine. Don't compare pound test ratings as they are rated differently. Go off diameter and you won't see much difference between the two options. I often throw a tiny tippet spool in a shirt pocket to have just in case I need to replace a leader on my finesse outfits when not in a boat with all my gear.

I only use tippet material for dryflies as they are nice and limp to create slack in the presentation. Otherwise I stick with seagar red label or maxima for leaders. And definitely pay more attention to diameters than pound test as it varies so much brand to brand.

As one fly fishing guide said, use any leader material as long as it is Maxima.

I tie knotted tapered leaders with XL or AN40, sometimes I even mix the two in one leader, so I don't know how to answer your question, line is line...

Trout leader is usually 2lb or 4lb where bass leaders are usually 6lb or 8lb. But the pound game is often misleading, so you can pay attention to the diameter of the line instead.

Many thanks for all the answers. Seems nuts to spend the extra $$$ on 30 yard spools of Rio etc.
