There are many talented bass fishermen that do not care much for tournament bass fishing since it is not a true measure of how good someone is in bass fishing. A better measure is someone who is consistently catching big bass (in the past and present, not just in the past) and tends to catch more bass than the average bass fisherman in his area. Also 1 big bass caught is not enough to be considered a good bass fisherman since anyone can get lucky but catching lots of big bass on a consistent basis is definitely a sign that the bass fisherman knows what he is doing.

I agree, tournament bass fishing is not the only way to gauge ones ability or proficiency.....however it is the standard by which the industry recognizes Proffesionals from Amatuers. But I don't want to redirect the conversation, so I will just say if the Senko is catching them, I won't be to proud to rig up with what's working, but I agree with the posters comment , that being versatile is important and the end goal is to create greater angling awareness and avoid being a one trick pony.

I agree and more importantly be consistent at catching big bass not just small/medium bass.

You want some cheese with that whine?  lol

I don't care what baits people throw or how good they think they are because it has zero impact on my skill or fish i catch.

Speaking of which, the cheddar and cheese curds up in 1000 Islands were very good, the local wines, not so much...

Don't worry about the other guy.  If senko's make him happy let him enjoy the sport.  Unless your a tournament fisherman having fun is the name of the game.  You do what you like, and let him do what makes him happy.

I will fish a number of baits, but the senko stick baits catch more fish and some big old girls more then anything else I throw.  You can fish the whole water column with it, by simply increasing or reducing the weight.  I can wacky rig it, walk the dog along the bottom, or burn it on top.  I can throw it in open water or in the thick pads and weeds, without hanging up.  If you throw it in front of a ten pounder she will inhale it as quickly as a jig and pig.

Its a great little bait, that will cast a mile with little weight into the wind, without any problems.  I used to be stickly a top water guy for years, but oh how I have changed!  You don't need the high priced senko's, the stick-o will do just as well for half the price.

For me catching fish is all the fun, regardless of size, and I catch plenty of big old girls!  Lifes too short to worry about what others like to do.

I should've been more specific... He ONLY wacky rigs a senko with a offset worm hook lol. It's all good though, thanks everyone!

Tell him what I tell my buddy when he gets to bragging about the Holy Grail of bass fishing lures the almighty "Senko"

I’d guess you’re a little too sensitive, at first glance. Leave the sensitivity to your rods and not your ego, lol.

Sometimes people who boast like that do it to yank your chain and may or may not be serious about it. Usually, if you’re good enough friends, you can tell.

If if you are good friends you should be able to tell, but not always.

Then there are people who just flat out like to brag about everything because it’s a way for them to look good, stroke their ego, or to feel superior when they know they aren’t.

To those type of people I waste no worrying on especially if I know that what they believe isn’t true.  I just smile and say, “that’s cool’” or “really? Wow.”

No sweat off of my back and I have nothing to prove, but if and when I do, my actions and not my words will do the talking.

...That was my point to my buddy, anyone can catch 20 dinks on a senko...

I know a few people who say the same thing.  They typically get skunked most trips and rationalize it by saying they are targeting the largest fish in the lake.  I doubt they have ever had a 20 fish day ( a great accomplishment the first time you do it) in their lives.

Your buddy may have figured out his lake, good for him.  If you feel a need to compete with him, rather than inviting him to your lake, ask if you can join him at his.  Start of with a Ned Rig and see who catches more.  If he does, commend him for figuring out his home body of water.

In Caddyshack, Ty Webb tells Judge Smails that he doesn't play golf for money.  Smails asks how does he measure himself then, to which Ty replied "by height".

Is he a close friend of yours or just some random guy you fish with once in a while? He sounds like he is a very competitive bass fisherman that does not do very well, which reminds me of some highly competitive fishermen I know down here that also talk a lot but do not do very well. My suggestion is tell him to change his ways and start stepping his bass fishing game up or stop fishing with him and focus on improving your own bass fishing game. Like the saying goes you can't fly like a eagle if you hang out with turkeys so fish with those that help you grow or fish by yourself until you find someone that motivates you or keep fishing with him if you enjoy his company that much.

Thank you @NittyGrittyBoy it is what I do myself to improve my own bass fishing game. I have had a lot of talented bass fishermen teach me techniques I did not know well for which I am very grateful for. It makes no sense for me to fish with someone who thinks they know it all yet their results say otherwise. The exception is fishing with my better half, family, and close friends which I just want their company when fishing.

He doesn't have a home lake. He fishes in the same tiny retention pond every day. Probably catching the same fish hahaha. I'm over it, finally just told the dude the truth, that he's a frigging joke, and moving on to find true bass anglers to fish with.

I'm waiting for @TOXIC to chime in......

?   Haha.....Don’t knock the bait, knock the fisherman.  Anybody who talks trash out of line deserves to get called out.  But I do have a problem calling the Senko an idiot bait that anyone can catch fish on.  I have always said that there are days the senko bite just isn’t there.  I went an entire week on St Clair last May and never threw it.  Could I have forced a few senko fish? Sure but they were wanting the Ned rig with a Yamamoto Cali-Roll more so that’s what I threw.  No one can be a single bait or lure fisherman and be consistent. But why the hate for a bait that is so successful?  Isn’t it all of our goal to catch the most or biggest fish?  The senko does that better than a lot of other baits.  If the truth be told, how much skill does it take to throw a crank or a spinner Bait?  Aside from color and size or depth considerations are they not just chuck and wind baits.  Throw it out, reel it back maybe with a pause or speed change?.  I posted about 3 of us in 2 boats all throwing senko, all the same color and I was the only one catching.  The other 2 sure didn’t think it was an idiot bait.?  I just happened to take the senko to a different level by fishing it in a lot of situations where most wouldn't or couldn’t.  If you think another version of the senko works as good, buy it and throw it.  ? It’s your hard earned money.  I just happen to believe it is often imitated but never duplicated and I’m always willing to share what I have learned in my years upon years of fishing it.

LOL I haven't done very well with it on my fav lake. I have pulled it out before a few places to avoid a skunk, but I have to admit it's not the bait I think of first and I usually don't have one tied on.

There used to be a Senko commercial where Roland Martin throws a bag to a kid. The kid asks "How do you work these things, mister?" Roland replies "Son, you don't work them, they work for you!" They have to be foolproof with that kind of endorsement wouldn't you think? LOL

You're being too sensitive . He  might just be having fun with you . i have a friend who caught a giant bass out of a privately owned strip pit . He took measurements and had a mount made .I swear this bass had to weigh 12 lbs and i trust he was honest with his lengths . He only lies to stay out of trouble. LOL   Any way ,in jest ,I told him it didnt count because he caught it in private water , a place most anglers dont have access to . Boy , did that   upset him .

Sorry if i came off that way.... Im really not knocking the senko. I'm knocking people who think they are the **** when they are truly not lol. Actually, I'm kinda commending the senko. It's such a great bait that anyone can catch a fish on it. That's not too say anyone that ever throws them can't fish (that's just silly). After all, my idol swears by them!

Hey guys, I'm looking for some opinions. I don't know if I'm being a little sensitive or not. I've been bass fishing since June and I'm really trying to become a GOOD and we'll rounded bass angler. So I immerse myself. I've caught bass on SOOOO many different lures. I have a fishing buddy that uses nothing except a senko. That's it. Seriously, who cares what he uses or says?
