LuffDaddy Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Hey guys, I'm looking for some opinions. I don't know if I'm being a little sensitive or not. I've been bass fishing since June and I'm really trying to become a GOOD and we'll rounded bass angler. So I immerse myself. I've caught bass on SOOOO many different lures. I have a fishing buddy that uses nothing except a senko. That's it. And he brags about all the dinks he catches from a tiny retention pond. He won't fish any lakes or go on a boat.... But he brags and talks about how he doesn't know a better bass angler.... This has annoyed me so much, am I being sensitive? Am I wrong?
Topwaterdude Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 It doesn't sound like you are being sensitive,I've fished with all different types of guys, between work and family it's nice to get on the water and just have some peace and quiet by myself. Keep doing what you are doing being proficient with a variety of lures will make you a well rounded angler?
NittyGrittyBoy Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 There's all kinds of folks, some who actually fish, and some who fish retention ponds. It's annoying/aggravating when we encounter people who have a lofty veiw of themselves and their said skills. Just keep learning and fishing and let him enjoy his ditch water 2
Super User Oregon Native Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 Sorry to break this to ya but I might pick a different ....buddy.... 12
B-Dozer Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Seriously, this is your biggest concern? ?♂️ 3
Super User NHBull Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 Fishing is what I do to avoid stress....if something this simple annoys you, fish by yourself. 3/4 of the time, I am my best friend. 4
B-Dozer Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 My three best friends and fishing buddy's never complain. 13
Super User Sam Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 Now your friend is just plain funny. If he is doing well with Senkos in a retention pond then let him have his fun. I bet he knows he would phloch if he went fishing in a real boat and had to use other baits when the Senko bite is turned off. I would pepper him with questions about what colors he uses, the sizes, presentations, length of his rod, line test, hooks, how he rigs the Senko, has he tasted the salt in them, does he use any weights, where does he buy them, how does he store them, does he use any scent, has he used any coloring, like JJ's Magic, how long does he let the dinks run before he sets the hook, has he had any problems with the dinks swallowing the Senkos, and anything else you can think of to drive him nuts. He will either continue to brag or run away when he sees you. 6 1

Super User Mobasser Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 Sounds like you buddy has a lot to learn. 1
B-Dozer Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Maybe your fishing buddy doesn't have many friends and is trying to impress you? Invite to a lake or pond, out of his "comfort zone". Chances are you might do better than he does. If so, don't bust his stones, maybe he'll take the hint. If he truly is an ass, move on and forget him, fishing is all about fun.
Derek1 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Don’t get me wrong retention ponds are a blast but when his beloved senco bite dies off he’s gonna he bumming. Just laugh it off there’s always gonna be one off those guys in the room.
Dens228 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 If that bothers you you are a tiny bit sensitive, if it bothers you enough to rant in a forum about it, yes you are way too sensitive. LOL 9
Chance_Taker4 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 It sounds like your buddy was made for the new Bass Pro Tour. Quantity or Quality. 1 2
Backroad Angler Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 I think your friend is gonna win the classic one day, take tips from him ? 2

Super User the reel ess Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 You could go stick a hook in every bass in his pond so they get wise to the Senko.

LOL Definitely not ranting.... Was just curious if this kinda attitude bothers other people as well 2 hours ago, B-Dozer said: My three best friends and fishing buddy's never complain. If he truly is an ass, move on and forget him, fishing is all about fun. That's why I get annoyed by him... I've invited him on a few different lakes multiple times. He's even said yes before and then bails last minute. Honestly, I think the reason I came to the forum to get some opinions is because he tried to talk **** that he's been fishing for 25 years and if anyone be giving advice, it's him. Dude can't even walk a frog! As soon as I throw a question at him, he goes "well I just started fishing for BASS a few months ago ". ???. Yeah I'm not gonna talk to that dude anymore haha. Thanks for the responses guys! 13 minutes ago, reason said: He's from Philly and has been fishing since June... Well I live in Florida now. And I've actually been KILLING it since I picked up a rod. I still have a lot to learn, and I'm not trying to be conceited, but I think I might be a natural ??? 1
Super User soflabasser Posted October 27, 2018 Super User Posted October 27, 2018 I know a couple guys down here that swear senkos are the best bass lure ever made. I do not like fishing with senkos but they do have their place and time they work best. I prefer catching bass on other lures such as topwaters, swimbaits, and other lures.
J.Vincent Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Bass fishing is a lifelong sport, and it's also a sport where even the most inexperienced anglers can inadvertently teach the experienced. As for being a natural; I've found that most advanced level bass anglers who are worth their weight in gold, don't actually even know how good they really are until they begin tournament fishing. In other words most people aren't aware of their own greatness, if in fact they are great. 1

There are many talented bass fishermen that do not care much for tournament bass fishing since it is not a true measure of how good someone is in bass fishing. A better measure is someone who is consistently catching big bass (in the past and present, not just in the past) and tends to catch more bass than the average bass fisherman in his area. Also 1 big bass caught is not enough to be considered a good bass fisherman since anyone can get lucky but catching lots of big bass on a consistent basis is definitely a sign that the bass fisherman knows what he is doing. 1

I thought I was doing what everyone does, then I started showing people some of my catches and telling the where I caught them, they had trouble believing me lol 9 minutes ago, soflabasser said: I know a couple guys down here that swear senkos are the best bass lure ever made. Senkos are a great beginner lure and a good lure for those who get fatigued easily by throwing other lures. I will fish them if I have to but most of the time I can find a better lure to use.

Thanks bud, I appreciate it. Gonna be hard to rain on my parade, I caught a trophy within 4 months, can't remember the last time I got skunked, and keep getting better. Oh yeah, thanks to you guys and Glenn!
