jonnyfish Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 So I just got my tatula SV TW yesterday and it wasnt as smooth as I expected. I think it may be lacking in grease, as the geary feeling is only felt in some parts of the rotation. Is there any way to fix this? Also I was also wondering what greases y'all recommend Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 20, 2018 Super User Posted October 20, 2018 If it’s new then just return/exchange it. Daiwa also has a 1yr warranty on new reels and will fix it for you. I just got a brand new gear set from Daiwa and it was bad. The reel sounded like it had a bee trapped in it when reeling the handle. A new set was installed and it’s like whipped butter now. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 The flood of posts regarding "Geary" reels makes me wonder if expectations are realistic. You never heard this about a Curado D because they were solid but heavy by today's standards. Current small, light weight reels will never feel like the past OGs. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 I have had a several new daiwa’s that way. Sent them in for repair and most but not all came back smooth. I stopped using lews because they got geary with age. I switched to Daiwa and some of them are geary right out of the box others are silky smooth. Maybe I do expect too much but I can’t deal with rough feeling reels. I pick up some of my friends reels that they comment how smooth they are and want to thrown them in the water. I guess we all have different expectations. Maybe I’ll get used to it too some day. Quote
jbrew73 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 I hear you but for $200 you would think they would be smooth out of the box. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted October 20, 2018 Super User Posted October 20, 2018 My first SV is just about my smoothest reel, but my second had a little click. I cleaned it and oiled it and that click went away. The handle doesn't feel as stiff as the other, but that's no big deal. But as rippin-lips suggested, it might be a smarter idea to just return it. LonnieP Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Send it back for a new one. Both of my Tatula SV’s are the smoothest reels I own. 1 Quote
junyer357 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 No problems with mine, but i also take all my new reels apart and clean and re-oil and regrease before they see a rod or line. I use shimano grease and boca lighting oil. Quote
ItsHardwick Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 I just got one last weekend and it’s by far the smoothest best feeling reel I own, and I own others that were more expensive. I absolutely love it, planning on picking up a second one this weekend again. So yes, send it in/return exchange it. Quote
