Recommend some line for me!

So, I got tired of respooling over and over and over and went to braid on all my reels this year. I fish braid to a leader on 90% of my presentations, the only reel that doesn’t have braid on it is on my cranking rod. 

 

Turns out replacing leaders all the time is a hassle too haha! And also I can just tell sometimes that braid is just not the best tool for the job. When I’m trying to get a swimbait to stay down for example and I can clearly see that most of the line is still floating in front of the bait, or it takes ages for a bait to actually get to the bottom when in reality it shouldn’t. 

 

So im going to order up some spools of flouro to switch out on some of my reels. I know braid has its place and I’ll be leaving it on some rods for applications where it makes sense.

 

Im just wondering what y’all are using? What casts the best? What brand and size do you like to use for what? Basically, help a brother out and tell me what you’d be ordering if you were me and why.

Im probably in the minority but i swear by yo-zuri hybrid. Good price as well.

Sunline assassin is a great fluoro. 12lb for finesse jigs and senkos. 17lb for skipping jigs and t-rigs/ light pitching, 20lb for pitching heavy wood cover. And it's a good price $20 for 225 yards which is 3 reels worth if you use backing

You can get braid that sinks-has the Gore fiber/thread. 

 

I don't use FC for anything but leaders-have burned a lot of money on it without finding one that handles well.  Mono for surface, of course.

agree --- I tend to go one size down. If I want a 12 lbs line, I would get 10 lbs due to breaking strength. I have not lost a fish on that or breakage yet.

I have had good luck with Sunline super florocarbon. It is one of the cheaper floro lines out there. It is $14 or $15 a spool. It has been very good on baitcasters but I would not recommend it for a spinning reel. I normally use 12 pound test for soft plastics and jigs.

I’ve been a big fan of Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon for a while now, I use 6 and 8lb on some spinning rods and 12-20lb on some of my baitcasters and its held up well and casts well too.

Yozuri is hard to beat for the money but I’d say drop down 2 sizes.  For 20 lb say Trilene or stren I’d use 15lb yz.  For 10lb I’d use 6 or 8.   Look at the diameter and use that for comparison.

 

i use sunline sniper and super natural??? mono for most of my rods and i have to step up a few lbs to get the strength I need.  (15lb big game =20lb sunline for example).   Sunline dia vs brand x mono dia seem to cast equally as well for me .

I have used the same Daiwa J-Braid x8 40lb from on one of my casting reels that I had from last year. For the other one, I picked up some Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon in 15lb on a buy one get one free sale at Bass Pro shops and I have had very good luck with it. Until today (which I was fairly sure I botched the knot I tied), the only lure I lost was caught on a handle on a dam and I had no chance of getting that one back.

This is why I’m where I am right now lol. Got tired of burning money and not finding one I was really satisfied with. I’ll have to look into the sinking braid too.

I've been using braid such as powerpro/suffix on most of my combos but if I don't use braid, I use the good ol Trilene XL. It's easy to get 7 or 8 bucks at walmart, farily cheap, they got clear or a moss color. I started out with XL and I still love it, it does good for me and casts very well. The only thing I would say it lacks in is abrasion resistance compared to other monofilaments, but not by much. I use the 12lb and 14lb for baitcasters and 8lb and 10 lb for spinning.

Sunline sniper is my favorite, but it runs about $23/spool here. I’ve also had great luck with seaguar red label for $10/spool from Walmart.

Sunline super fc sniper is probbsly your best bet. I use 10-16 pound and it handles amazing

On my baitcasters I use 12# Kastking Fluorokote. For Spinning gear I like 8# Kastking Fluorokote. It's a co-poly line coated with Fluorocarbon.

I'm down to only braid, Gliss (spinning) and YZH.  There are times when fluoro or mono would be incrementally better, but I like the simplicity of doing without either

Same here. I use 14# for T-Rigs, Jigs and Crankbaits. Holds up well around wood which my home lake is full of. I use the Trilene Knot and never have any trouble (just wet and cinch slowly). Not trying to start a debate but I started with Red Label and it had too much memory for me and then InvizX which had great casting with less memory but too many line breaks in heavy cover.

I use line that fit application, I like simplicity to use one type line that fit all, but sometime you need to find some excuse to buy more reels/rods and gears ?.

i use braid (power pro 30lbs, J-braid 30) only for jig/Frog and top water. Mono for mostly topwater and moving bait (Big game 12lbs). Copolymer for most everything elses(#6-#12 Hybrid or Izorline). Fluocarbon for plastic when I want it to sink fast mostly weightless plastic Fluke, Trick worm, Roboworm (12lb no brand specific).
