Medium or MH for this new rod?

Looking to buy a rod dedicated to smaller crankbaits. Mostly squarebills, 3XDs and such

 

Wanted to go with a glass rod and think I am going with the Lews David Fritts Perfect Crankbait rod because if its features and price

 

I am going to do the 7' rod but cannot decide on the medium or medium-heavy variety

 

I like the idea of a medium rod for this but I may also throw some 1/2 SK RES on this too. Would medium still work for this or do I need to go up?

 

If I were to occasionally jump up to a 5XD could the medium do that or is that where the line is drawn and for that the MH is the route to go?

Look at the lure weight ratings rather than the power designation.

I would go with a medium personally, just my .02 though... however I have never tried a lews David Fritts rod so I don't know how the ratings match up.

Medium no doubt.  In my opinion those rods run a tad stout.  

 

They are also not glass, but a composite unless something changed.   Good rods for the money though.   I'd definitely buy another one.

There is a video on YouTube where David Fritts does a Tackle Warehouse video saying that they are 90% glass and 10% graphite.

Cool.  Wasn't sure how much was glass or graphite, just knew they were both.  Feel more like a graphite rod to me (In a good way though)

If you’re going glass for square bills and mid divers go medium.

I would draw the line at square bills and mid divers with a Medium glass rod.

If memory serves, the 5xd weighs 5/8 oz.  Most medium rods can handle that just fine.

It's amazing how sensitive some of the new midrange to upper end glass rods have become.

 

As for M vs MH, it depends what and where you're fishing. MH rods tend to be ideal for deep divers and throwing square bills in cover where it might get stuck and you need that extra power to horse the fish out. If you fish mostly in open water and don't use deep divers to often, I'd think you'd be good with the medium especially as other uses have said that rod runs on the stiffer side.

The medium will work. The Lews  M will handle up to 3/4 oz lure.

Kinda pushing it with a 5xD and a medium rod if you ask me the deeper you go the more resistance you get from the lure your throwing that’s something you have to keep in mind.
