I have a chance to buy a 97 stratos, either 18 or 18.5 ft with an evinrude 150 intruder for $4,500. has minor cracks in seats, evinrude trolling motor. hummingbird on front, in dash flasher. boat in excellent shape, garage kept. I haven't seen the boat but going to look at it tommorrow. Sounds like a great deal to me just by it's description. prices I found on ebay and boattrader.com are a good bit higher. I don't know which model the boat is. What do you think?  was the 97 intruder 150 a good motor?  Thanks!!

Ok good!!!! I know the boat has an intruder so that means I'm in the clear on that.....shewwwwwwww Now hopefully the owners excellent condition is the same as my excellent condition. It's gonna be stormy here fri and sat so I may have to give him a couple hundred to hold it till it's nice enough for me to take it to the lake and try it out. Should I run it for an hour or so? or is just a few runs up and down the lake sufficient? My brother said run it for an hour, that sometimes they wont show engine problems till the engine is good and hot....

Stratos builds fine boats I fish out of my brothers all the time; it's a 258 with a 70 hp Johnnyrude sweet little ride.   :o

As for the 1997 Stratos, if it is in good shape, that is a steal at that price.

Related but slightly off-topic:

I just recently bought a Stratos with a 2000 200 HP Ficht.  The Intruder is not a Ficht.  The problem with the Fichts was in the model years 1999 - 2000, but if the recall work has been performed on the fuel injection retainers the problem should be corrected.  There were a few other problems with the Fichts as well. but if you find one now that runs well you have probably found a good motor.

Ok I have an update on the situation and need more opinions. I went and looked at the boat. It appears to be a 94' (last four digits in serial number?)  stratos 270  dual console with 95' 150 intruder (3 blade ss prop), 95 trailer, has trim on engine,  2 huge deka trolling batts(1 year old) and deka starting batt. seats look fairly good to me. lots of switches on dash and on front, in dash flasher, hummingbird on front probably needs replacing(screen discolored) has some slight scuffs on bottom, two small chips(half inche or so) both repaired, one on the front edge of the v, one on the very back  below engine where the bottom meets the bottom of the transom , floor/decks solid as can be, he says every switch and button on the boat works. We didn't get to take it out but I'm going back asap to put it on the water. Boat has always been garage kept and also covered. He only used it once last summer after having new plugs put in, oil injector rebuilt, and a new water pump installed. New tires on single axle trailer. The boat looks pretty darned good to me, not many scratches, has some minor gel coat cracks in the back corners next to the engine hatch. He said that's pretty common on stratos? No fading whatsoever on boat. Shiny as can be, looks brand new colorwise other than normal/minor surface scratches from boat docks, shoes, etc. nothing deep. Still looks like a good deal to me for 4,500. After driving the boat I'm gonna start at 4,000 if it runs good and see where we meet. I looked on boattrader.com and all of the 94's (some 270's some 284's)  were a good bit higher($7,000-13,000) than this one except for one that didnt look as good of shape. Oh and the carpet looks pretty good also. He's gonna have the bearings packed and a return line leak on one of the carbs fixed this week before I take it out. Oh, he said he thinks its a 17'6 ft. Anybody know? The 270's on boattrader.com say 18'. The boat is black and silver with red pinstripes/accents. Makes me think of a Dale Earnhardt color scheme. Very sharp!!!!!!!!! Where did the 270 model rank in the 94 models? Now with this info I need new opinions please.  Thanks for all the help guys.

A Ficht will have the letters FFI somewhere on the cowling.  Even with all the mods to those 97-2000 Fichts, they're still a very temperamental motor that requires exact care or they'll blow up.

That is the retail price range I gave you , the wholesale is quit a bit lower.

N.A.D.A. is similiar to blue book prices.

I just read the bottom of the page on the nada guide. anything older than a '99, the price doesn't include the motor or trailer. So that explains the low price. I looked at a 99 and then a 98 and the worth was less than half on the 98 and it doesn't list an engine like the 99 does. So It appears I'm still gettin an awesome deal. Now all i need is for it to run good when I take it out this Friday. Anybody know where I can find a decent compression gauge fairly cheap for one time use, and how to check the compression?  Thanks

If you had read the top of the page , you would have seen they have listings for motors and trailers listed seperately.

Trailer---700.00

Boat-----2510.00

Motor----1720.0

TOTAL---4730.00
