Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to the fishing scene here in VA Beach and I'm wondering if any of you have some good spots I should try out to get started. I don't have access to a boat, so I'm currently restricted to bank fishing. I've tried Mt Trashmore but didn't spend too much time there after hearing most people say not to waste my time there.

Thank for any pointers you all may have! :)

Yes!

Go to Bass Pro Shop on the other side of the "hole in the water" and get the 2018 or 2019 booklet, Freshwater Fishing in Virginia.

A local Dick's or a tackle shop may also have a copy and save you the six-hour drive (traffic in the tunnel, you know) to and from Virginia Beach. :)

Look up the Virginia Beach area and you have places to consider.

Also, on a weekend, if you want to take a nice drive and you have a GPS unit or an iPhone with WAZE, head to Ed. Allen's on the Chickahominy Lake and you can pay to fish their pier. Give them a call after you look at the following Internet site for their address. They rent skiffs so you can fish around his ramp in a boat.

Others living in the Beach area should also have some suggestions they can share with you.

Good luck and be sure to have your Virginia fishing license and your needle nose pliers with you at all times.

There is a decent amount of shore access near the boat ramp at Stumpy Lake. Stumpy is known for big bass. Stumpy is a very shallow and flat lake, which means any part of the lake can hold fish at any time. No need for a boat. So many trees along the banks to fish to.

Lake Smith is ok as long as it's during the week. They renovated recently and added a lot of area for bank fisherman. I do the Kayak thing and mostly fish the suffolk lakes. if you are willing to do saltwater there is alway rudee inlet I hear the specks are running right now.

I don't know if you have tried lake Smith on Northampton Blvd but if you have not then give it a try they have a couple nice docks out there and some great bank fishing
