JWall14 Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 I’m looking to increase my tackle amount (wow what a surprise). Here’s what I’ve got after a year of fishing: -3 cranks- sq bill, dt 6, deep diver -2 jerks- shallow, 1small susp, 1 big sinking -4 lipless -3 walking baits -2poppers -3 jigs- 2 1/4oz, 1 1/8oz finesse -1 spinnerbait- willow, Colorado -2 buzzbaits- 1 white, 1 black -TRD’s -a lot of plastics- about 12 bags- for Texas rigging or shaky head fishing As you can see I have a small amount compared to most of you and want to increase my lure selection. I am also in high school so I don’t have a ton of money but I worked in the summer so I’ve got a good amount. Can you guys please recommend baits that you ACTUALLY USE that are cheap? Quote
GReb Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 You can get about 8-10 H2O hard baits for $20. The Academy house brand. I recently picked up a few and was impressed for the price. Best quality bang for the buck IMO is strike king and zoom 6 Quote
JWall14 Posted October 15, 2018 Author Posted October 15, 2018 Yep I love zoom for that reason! 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted October 15, 2018 Super User Posted October 15, 2018 What do you need or what are you looking for? I remember being a broke teenager trying to buy tackle so I will just send you some. Post some of the things you want and I will see what I have. PM me a name and address of a guardian not yours. As a parent I would not want someone my teenager met on the internet sending them packages. Allen 10 3 Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 15, 2018 Super User Posted October 15, 2018 My advice is buy quality over quantity. How many cheap lures do you need that are marginally effective? 1 lure knocker will retrieve your snagged underwater lures for a lifetime. Rarely loose top water lures. I have Bomber 7A's, Poe's 200 & 300 and Norman DD14's and DD22's for decades that I still use and catch bass with....the same lures have caught hundreds of bass. Tom 2 Quote
187yak Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 I fish rubber worms pretty much exclusively and have good luck with some off brand senko style worms. They’re 30 cents a piece. Let’s me get plenty of colors. They’re hand poured and scented. 1 Quote
Tizi Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Agree H2O's from Academy are a good choice. I have got a lot of good stuff from eBay auctions. Just picked up 2 Baby 1 Minus for $3.95 shipped. 2 Quote

Since Nick Creme came out with soft plastic worms in the 50's no body make rubber worms anymore. The plastic worm is by far the most cost effective bass lure ever made. Tom 1 Quote

Some dirt cheap lures that have worked well for me : cotton cordells of virtually all types (not super quality, especially hooks); and lots of YUM baits in the Walmart bargain bins, especially Dingers and their various craws and worms. Another super-effective cheap "numbers" bass bait for me is the white or silver or green YUM grubs in 3" - sell for about $1.50 a pack and absolutely deadly and versatile. 2 Quote

I cought a really big bass my guess 4+ pounder big bugg out eyes on a cheap deep diving cotton Cordell minnow from the Walmart bin. 1 Quote
thedilettantedad Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 The only thing that sticks out to me which you might need are jigs. You have maybe 2-3x more stuff than I do from that list. 1 Quote

I would also pick up a small hook hone or wet stone to sharpen your other hooks. One of the best investments you can make. 2 Quote

Quality hooks (although I don't know which brand), oval split rigs, good finish and I've never had one that didn't run 100% true out of the box. Can't go wrong with Strike King or Zoom either. Most of the Academy H2O baits go for around $3.99 everyday, they run them on sale for $2.50 several times a year. That's when you load the buggy.....when your wife's not looking. 1 Quote

Pretty sure the lures are made by PRADCO who also make bandit, bomber, booyah, yum, heddon, etc 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 16, 2018 Global Moderator Posted October 16, 2018 The H20 hardbaits are cheap and effective, plus come with decent hardware. YUM plastics are about the cheapest buy out there and among my favorites. The H2O brand hooks are also good for the price and you can buy about a 20pk for $5. Big Game line would be my choice for the cheapest and best line you can get. 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 16, 2018 Global Moderator Posted October 16, 2018 1/8 oz round ball jig head (Arkies from Walmart) and a 2.5 or 3 inch curly tail grub. Works for any fish anywhere 4 Quote

B-Dozer Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Keep a lookout in overhanging trees, and semi submerged trees. You would be surprised at the good lures you can find. Many people won't bother trying to retrieve a snagged lure, especially if they are in a bigger bass boat. Quote
