BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted March 17, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted March 17, 2008 I have an older bass boat, 1992, and want to use it in the bay. What if any problems will I run into. Motor, fiberglass, carpet? Quote
_tyler_wright_ Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hmmm.. As far as i know you should be alright. But i would look and make sure you motor will be okay. Your carpet and fiberglass will be fine though... Quote
CGH Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Should be ok. Just be sure and give the Motor a good flushing out with fresh water aftwards if it is not rated for the salts. I have a 1956ish Evinrude Big twin 40 that I have been putting in the salts and other than discoloration it runs just find. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I have never done it but I would think everything would be ok if you flush the motor good and rinse everything with freshwater afterwards. My concern would be the trailor. A lot of unpainted areas that are hard to rinse and it can rust from the inside out..............Al Quote
HPBB Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Just flush the motor out with fresh water as soon as you get off the water and wash the hull off, and you should not have any problems. Keep a eye on your zink anode they will be needing change more offten now. Quote
shortbasser Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I have been fishing brackish water in a fiberglass bass boat since the early 80's. I learned a lesson the hard way. I now always flush the motor with fresh water and wipe down the hull with Bass Boat Saver every time it comes out of the water. I had to have the heads cleaned and the heat sensors and thermostats replaced on the Evinrude on my first rig. There was some corrosion. I do occassionally hose down the trailer even though it is galvanized. I have never had a carpet problem and I do get it wet at times. If for some reason I can't get to water at the marina after a day's fishing I never put the boat up with out flushing the motor. Shortbasser Quote
