Need crank rod help

Needing some opinions about getting a rod dedicated to crankbait fishing. Some things to consider:

 

I already have a 7' Mach 2 Lews combo for most things I fish and a 7'6" jig/frog rod if it helps

 

I do not see myself doing a ton of deep cranking (but it could happen and I would like this rod to be able to handle it) so I am probably looking for something that can handled 4 feet to 16 feet depths? Could fish some 1.5's up to 4.0's but maybe something bigger but very sparingly

 

Everyone tells me to go with a glass rod for this, I assume you would agree with this?

 

I am 5'10" and not sure if I should stick with something in the 7' range or go all the way up to something like 7'6". If I was going to be doing deep cranking exclusively I would do the 7'6" size but at my height and also wanting to use it is shallow settings too if the 7' variety is a better fit.

 

What Power/action do I want to go with for this purpose?

 

I think I will be matching this up with a 6:3 Daiwa Fuego CT reel

My favorite cranking rod is a dobyns fury FR705CB. it is medium heavy moderate fast action. 7ft long. 

designed specifically for crankbaits. 

costs around $109.00 dollars. you can buy it at tackle warehouse, amazon, etc.

 

this is a graphite rod and very light. . Glass is heavy in my opinion.

I would recommend graphite, will most likely be lighter than any glass you can find.  I'm sure someone will correct me, but any action and power that can be done with glass can be done with graphite.  And most of the time it will be lighter and more sensitive.

 

The most important part of the power question is that the recommended lure weight should fairly closely match the weight of the lures you will be casting most of the time.  This is because if a rod doesn't load well on the cast, it will be difficult to cast.

 

Most like moderate to moderate-fast for cranks.

I'm specifically looking at the Lews David Fritts Perfect crank model because I have found a great deal locally. If I went with the 7' and would also be looking to throw lipless with it should I go with the medium or medium heavy model?

 

Is this particular rod made up of the ideal material to small/med cranks and lipless and not wear your arms out is fished all day?

I fish a g.loomis imx pro 845c cbr which is a 7’ medium-heavy moderate-fast action rod and I love it! My hookup ratio has gone way up after I purchased this rod! Have thrown 1/4oz cranks to 3/4oz cranks!

Crankbait fishing you need a rod you are comfortable casting because you do a lot of casting. If I recall the Dave Fritts rod has a wide trigger and to me very uncomfortable, the rod is OK. The Dobyns FR 705 CB is a very well balanced composite rod and at that price point very good choice.

I used to not be a huge fan of glass rods but after spending more time with my new to me St. Croix Legend Glass I'm in love. Caught quite a few last Friday on it, mainly throwing 1.5's and some 75x's.

 

That rod is sweet! But like others have said, the Dobyns 705CB is a great rod too.
